Aw, thanks, all! :withstupid: Sorry Matt & Jayare, I've not seen this 'til today!

I am happy with it, well, we both are! - Just wish we could be in, now - But it's getting closer and closer ... But, rather annoyingly, life has got in the way somewhat, over these last few weeks, so we've not been able to do a lot. We just need to get back into the swing of things again, with the house. We'll get there again! :(

Looking great! Well done for choosing wooden windows, I can't stand PVCU!! What colour's the fireplace going? Looks like it weighs a ton!

Er - not really, to be honest - We've been on holiday for nearly 2 weeks - And before that, trying to get bloomin' Minis MOT'd! :)

Fireplace is going black, think they look best in it! :) and the little details will be polished up, back to brass - Apparently yes, it does weigh a ton, lol :P

I can't stand UPVC, either - Can't wait to get rid of the aluminium glazing on most of the house! :) Unfortunately it all costs money, so will have to wait! :( Really want to get the bay window custom made properly though - and the front bedroom window, as it's mahooooosive - But they will come in time.

The other thing we did get, was another sofa for the front room! :D Coming together slowly :dozing:

The other priority is to rewire the house and to get the central heating in - Get all the mucky stuff out of the way first.

Thinking about getting something like this for the front room:

(Not the actual one I'm looking at, but I can't find the photo of that - But it's similar, just less bulky)

What are people's views - Are they as efficient?

I don't want to put a radiator in the bay & there's a fireplace on the one wall and 2 sofas on the others - So a traditional one will be covered up - I figured something like this would be less intrusive, but don't really want to lose any efficiency?

Have you thought about a reclaim yard as you are keeping some period features. (Not sure how they would compare efficiency wise though)

I too am not a fan of UPVC although we do have it in our house. Have had wooden in the last 2 (more traditional) houses and much prefer.

Don't miss the painting though !! A clean round with the PVC cleaner is much quicker !!

Look forward to the next stage of updates

Regards

Steve

We're definitely going retro with the other radiators - Not sure if I've got a photo of the one ear-marked for the bathroom .. but it's a niiice old cast iron one with some really funky fins! :)

We've been 'round a couple of yards locally, but they're horrendously priced! :)

Our house is very late victorian/early edwardian - So it's difficult to find the right sort of stuff.

Still looking for a front door :dozing:

Progress can be slow as I've found also Bean. Just finished the main bedroom which included reblacking a fire but mine wasnt as bad as yours.

House is the same period as yours so know how difficult it can be, also still on the trail of a door, found one on ebay but was £700! excluding the frame!

If you do do for a reclaim rad get it sand/bead blasted to remove all the old paint, apart from it being lead based, removing numerous layers of paint improves the heat output quite remarkably.

I won a nice edwardian stained glass door on ebay - perfect size! £51! Bargain ... Unfortunately I didn't meet the reserve - I asked her how much she wanted ... £200 she said. It was nice, but not that nice!

Fire could do with some work, but it'll be alright - I adore it, it'll be worth it!

Fair point about the rad - We'll definitely have to get that done - There's some horrid old thick white paint on it at the moment, so will have to sort that out.

Well done on sorting the bedroom!! What's your next hurdle? :)

yeah £51 was a bargain, I wish now i had taken the chance on a door in a reclaim yard £20 but was unsure on size, went home to check returned a few days later to find the company went bust due to irregular cash transactions!

Fire will be worth it, I'll see if I can get a picture up of my fire later

My next is to tidy the back garden up then onto the other bedrooms over winter, which should be easier as they are simply redecorate (well unless the plaster falls off the walls/ceilings when i take four layers of wallpaper off lol!)

That's what happened in our front room, lol - We knocked out the box for the new sockets and the plaster (which is all original) started to bow outwards ... not good! K investigated a little further & now we have a nice feature of some exposed brickwork - lovely, lol :)

Would be great to see your fire! Do you have a before shot, too? Wonder if it's worth getting it dipped or anything - It's quite orange, lol :)
