For the quality of it and the 15 year guarantee, no, it was a bargain! :) :shifty:

It's the bloomin' underlay that I wasn't expecting!

£65 a roll, of 10m2 :P

Unfortunately, the area we need to cover is 12m2, so we had to buy 2 :shifty:

Hi Bean

That floor is looking mighty fine.

If I can put my "advice hat" on again just in case, as I'm sure you will have been advised by the floor supplier.

Natrural wood can have a lot of movement and will need conditioning. That is, left unpacked in the environment in which it will be laid so the moisture content balances. Usually at least 2 - 4 weeks (some flooring will be engineered and may need less).

Given that you have a house that has been empty for some time, all the wet work you have done, (plastering etc) and the recent & quite dramatic change in temperature, I wouldn't be too quick to fit it exact until you're sure all the movement has taken place. (It will always move a little of course, thats why you put the foam strips at the edges)

If this is the kitchen though, bear in mind you can have a much "movement" space as you need under the cabinets.

Also, I would have been stripping those door frame mouldings before you put wood down. Dont want to risk marking you're fine new floor.

Sorry of this comes across a bit negative, it's certainly not meant that way at all, but to use the words of the great "Shifty".... Don't ask me how I know!

Good luck & best wishes

Steve

I'm convinced that there is a greater power out there, sat in it's own high tech office, rich beyond your wildest dreams and more intelligent that you can ever imagine, that has spent it's entire existence working out the average size of rooms, kitchen cupboard runs, flooring, wallpaper etc on every building on the planet, and then selling this information at extortionate cost to manufacturers so that they can make extra ££££££'s by having all their pack sizes, (especially the "must have" accessories) made just a little tooooooo bloomin' short!

The countries lofts & sheds must be full, (I know mine are) of bits of trim & moulding etc, where I've had to buy an additional piece 1.8mts long 'because I needed a bit 300mm to finish the job.

Imagine, if only I had been the one to come up with that strategy............Oh the £millions!!!!!! LOL :P

Hey, Steve - Thanks so much for the input!

I totally agree with the 'leftover' scheme! I reckon it's the same person who invented the traffic cone. There's millions of those around! And hundreds of them used when there really is no need! Imagine ... even if you had 50p for each one, you'd be absolutely raking it in!

However, if I'd have been on the computer sooner and read you first reply, I would have taken your very sound advice! However, we were up and out this morning ... and this is pretty much the first time I've had to sit down!

I was going to update everyone today, with loads of photos .. but my memory card has corrupted at some point in the last hour and wiped all the photos that I've taken today! I was only viewing them on my camera an hour ago!

Update tomorrow, then - I'll go and take some more photos! Unfortunately, all of our progress photos are lost >_<

Still - It's been a really great day!! But for now (seeing as I'm in bed typing this) ... sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!
