Hi guys i have a stiebel nautilus air horn, my car has been off the road for a couple of months and ive come back to it and the horn doesnt work, there is power going to it and the compressor for the horn makes a buzzing noise like it is trying to work, but no horn sound, any ideas what it might be.

thanks

G

Remove the pipe, squirt a little WD40 into the compressor discharge and let it soak a little, remember that it will spit out this WD40, so look away and then run the compressor. If it spins up, add a little 3 in 1 oil and let that soak, run the compressor without the horns attached for a prolonged period and you should be able to hear the speed pick up. if it doesnt spin, leave it a while longer, and if it still doesnt spin, its FUBAR'd

remove the pipe from the horns and add a little oil there too.

The stebel nautilus is an all in one airhorn, so unfortunately you cannot pour oil down the air pipe to the compressor.

When it buzzes, is the compressor actually turning, or is it a "stuck" buzz. if there is no movement, perhaps remove the horn, and give the compressor a little tap to see if it frees off.

Just had a thought - you say the car has been stood - is the battery charged? - if you are only getting like 9V, perhaps this isnt enough power to overcome the force to sound the horn?

have one of these on my festa van they are great but they are also prone to seizing through non use - completely stripped mine lubed it with milking machine oil (also kown as vacuum pump oil) but i presume most oils wil do.

worked great after that until i came to use it after a long perod 3-4 weeks and yes it was jammed again!!!

seems to be weakness to them

the battery wasnt connected while it was stood, but i think its charged the car starts fine and lights work fine not dim at all. i took the horn off the bracket and rested int on the engine while i hit the horn and it was buzzing all over the place.

i might need to strip it then. is it easy to take apart?

if its anything like my horn, there is a small "oil" cap that yu spray a little wd in. then yu just need to keep working it through till yu hear the horn. it may take 5 mins for it to work. mine was slighty buzzy, as it was layed up for 14 years! i have twins, i don't remember what make mine is.
xx

i can get a picture of it if yu need.

wd40 - the miracle oil, cures all known ills...read our testimonals:

Mr G: When my gearbox exploded whilst doing the le Mas 24 hour race, I sprayed a liberal amount of WD40 onto it and voila one working gearbox!

Mr B: I had a serious misfire in my rolls royce merlin engine in my spitfire whilst fighting gerry, a quick squirt onto my propellor and hey presto!

Mr T: When my leg was taken off by a crocodile in the Australian outback, one squirt of WD40 and hey, my leg is as good as new.

WD40 - THE MIRACLE OF THE MODERN AGE
