Hi, i have a really nice 998cc which has just been restored, but as im sure your well aware it doesnt offer much in safety. Im considering getting a roll cage by security devices ( I think it is) consisting of rear rally style cage, and front cage. However i also want a beam to run the length of each door for side protectio, a beam to run the length of the dash, and ive seen some protection around the footwells. What i wanted to know is... is the 'safety devices' roll cage actually any good (i.e. not just for show)? can i fit the dash bar/ door bars etc to the existing roll cage? and where and how much can i get these from? Ive also included a pic of a mini for sale with the structure i would ideally want at the footwells. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Cappy

safety devices roll cages are used for racing so yes they are for go not show.
all door bars can be purchased seperately. the front cage bolts onto the rear cage and has a bar running across the dash.

might bump up your insurance a bit because of the amount of rollcage related injury claims (people bang their heads and get concussion resulting in a personal injury claim)

be sure to foam pad it for everyday use

You might find the door bars annoying after clambering over them a hundred times.

not sure if you can or not but i'd investigate the later sportspack mini doors with internal side impact protection, might not fit but i'm sure someone on the forum will know

doesnt come standard with the dash bar. its an optional extra.

if you want everything including the footwell braces youre looking at the full on multipoint jobby, and thats ££££.

If you're going multipoint, I would investigate a bespoke welded in caged rather than a bolt in....

Take some time next year and have a look inside a Miglia Mini.... Now that's a cage.

And Nick is right about insurance, contact your firm first as some will not even insure the car with a cage in it.

Cool, thanks for your help. I need to look into it some more, and i will inquire about the insurance... it seems ironic though... paying extra for being safe!!! - doesn't really make sense!
