You can get blank plates from minispares I think. My local mini place will make a plate up and stamp it according to your v5.

Not sure if you need a plate for the MOT, but if you have it's got to match the VIN elsewhere (changed the bolt in front slam panel on a 106, forgot to remove the VIN plate off the old car and it failed the mot becuase of it.

The chassis number should also be stamped in the gutter strip behind the bonnet - so as long as you have the V5 logbook and the two chassis numbers match, there shouldn't really be an issue. And as cobblers states, you can buy a new plate and have it stamped up...

I think you do need the plate for MOT, they always check them where I go, but it may depend on the age of the Mini. If it's a later one with the VIN stamped in the lip on the scuttle, they may be happy with that. If you have trouble getting one, you can also try Classic Reproductions, they will supply one & know someone who will stamp it as long as you supply a copy of your V5.
http://www.classicre...co.uk/cp444.jpg The link shows an example, they supply all styles depending on the age of your car.

For the MOT you will need the VIN marked somewhere on the body, either in the gutter as on later models, on the VIN plate or both so long as they match if you have both all is well. Any small piece of steel or aluminium fitted securely and stamped with the correct VIN from the V5 will do to mark it. We need the VIN and registration number to log the test onto the MOT computer which is linked to the DVLA.

Tim at Mini Mail will make up a replica VIN and/or engine number plate if you send him a photo-copy of the V5.
His number is 0`989 720111.

dont forget that on later minis the vin was etched into the front and rear screen, if its a late 80's/early 90's with an original screen it might be worth a try

theres a guy in doncaster who my mate got a replacement for because it didnt have one on his mini when he got it
he rang him up and gave him the numbers over the phone, then the guy said do you know where the hatfield chase is (pub)
ill meet you in the carpark :) :)

I believe only Twin-Point/MPi Minis got the VIN numbers etched into the windscreen?

My 1990 Mini Cooper hasn't anyway. Oh and Somerford Minis sell VIN plates too, so you should be able to get the right one, i.e. either with BL or Austin Rover or Rover branded?
