is it legal to take the rear bumper off our mini project, and de-seam it, like the rest of the car?
im sure it is, but i have a nagging feeling that cars have to have 5mph crash bumpers on to pass a UK MOT?
can anybody help.... before i get carried away with the grinder

Pretty sure its legal (so many people have done it!)
But before getting your grinder out, make sure to have your welder handy If you just cut the seam, your valance will simply fall off and your boot floor will flop about.
You need to cut the seam off in about 6-10" sections, and once you cut a section weld the three panels (rear panel, boot floor and valance) together and cut some more and move further along the seam. Once youve welded and removed it all, grind down the welding and repaint!

What is not legal is to remove the bumper and leave the sharp bumper mounting lip on .

cheers peeps....
pavel - thats how weve been doing the other de-seaming, if you cut too much off it pulls it all outta shape.... but for this the rear valence is knackered and needs replacing anyway so we'll just tack the body and boot foors together then replace the valence before welding it properly
siggy- wont be a problem, as the exhaust is being boxed in, then a 4" exit will be going through the panel behind the driver/passenger door
woody - as youve prob guessed, the rest of tha car is being de-seamed, so its gotta come off too (with exception of roof gutter...were gonna tidy it up a bit and keep that)
