so on my 3 hour lunch break i decided i would have a crack at fitting my extended wheel studs and wheel spacers. old stud came out fine then when it came to fitting the extended one it was getting abit tough. i went for the method of using a socket as a spacer between the nut and the not threaded part of the bolt. it started going in quite nicely then getting down to the splined bit it started getting tough. me just thinking it just tight because its almost in i kept going unitl i realised the nut was just spinning on the spot. wrecked the thread on both the nut and bolt. not to pleased right now  will have ago at sorting it out tomorrow as iv got work soon :-

a bit of copper grease on the splines helps pull them up

Ahhh. I take it you are talking about the rear ones?
If so they knock in from the back You will have to take the hub off to do it properly. The "Splines are to prevent the stud turning when you tighten the wheel nuts. How did you get the old one out?
I would fit the spaced drums rather than spacers. Much better. I've just replaced the cast drums for minifins so I've a couple that are surplus

no this was one of the front ones, to knock it out i just used a block of wood and a hammer. i think the splines are slightly different on them tho :/

i think you need a book on suspension setting up

moving the front wheels out messes up all sorts of angels and stuff i don't understand

I dont think that is correct. The standard discs are wider than drums, that is why spacers were put on the back - so that the track was widened by the same amount, and so that front and rear wheels had the same offset.

SO... in my opinion, if you put spacers on the back ,and have front drums, you should put them on the front too.

I had this on my original Mini, certainly didnt upset handling at all.

I wouldnt be putting spacers on discs tho.

cheers for the advice dude , ive been looking at the disc packages on minisport, the drilled discs with the green pads. £70 for the pair so il probs just do this n keep spacers on the back ... atleast until i can get my hands on some of the finned rear drums

i got spacers on the front of my mini, and it has the longer studs, i just lined up the splines and hammered them in, used an old drum brake, lay that flat on the floor face up, and place the hub onto it face down with the holes lined up, stick the new studs through the hub so they go through the old brake drum, and u should be able to knock the studs through without damaging any thread. thats how it did it, and had no problem since!
