mine are black (you cant really see in the pictures), not that low and of a different material of the sparco ones, more flexable and more impact resistant

not much help as i don't have a picture but i ran a mini years ago with these, i fitted them sticking out past the arch about 2" and about 6-8" up the arch. they looked fine and stopped loads of crap getting up the side of the car.

I don't know if this is of any help, but here's a photo I took at Himley of a Rally Mini with an overkill of mud flaps.

In my rallying days, they were like this (below)

Why do Minis have them at the front, you dont seem to see them like that on anything else, is it front wheel drive related? I just dont see why they are needed at the front.

theres nothing in currecnt MSA regulations saying minis have to have them out the front :shy: maybe they were back then....but seeing as iv never seen videos on youtube of other cars with them i doubt thats the case...maybe mini drivers are wierd  ...wouldnt be the 1st time >_<

they could be to knock things out the way of the wheel like long grass and light snow banks.
they said in this months mini world that they used some of the cars to clear the routes aswell.

im going to be spectical about the point you raised unfortunatly :shy: mud flap material as it is now (not sure about back then again) is generaly flexable, so large stones etc dont get caught up on them.
what it might be though is for when the car goes through water splash's i know eery time iv been through water in my mini it always seems to come up onto the screen maybe its just directing it away... almost makes sense in my head >_<

"The funky rubber splash guards up front are borrowed from the works cars"

Think you may be right there. :shy:

Yeh - all the works cars had them... but... just dont know why. The splash idea makes sense - maybe keeps some of the water out of the grille/motor

My guess would be to stop mud/crap being chucked forward into the air which would then be driven through by the car and plastering the lights with mud?

The front mounted mud flaps on the works cars were indeed to reduce the amount of water being pushed forward & then coming back through the grille & over the windscreen. They were fairly strong & could also have pushed light snow away, but I've never heard that from an 'official' source.
Mini93, yeah, some Mini drivers are weird, as I'm often told! lol!
