Model: 1275 Sprite
Year: 1993

Hi guys,

I have recently aquired my first mini, and after much deliberation over the haynes manual photographs I cannot work out what type of carburetor my mini has. More specifically I cannot find the fuel, air mixture screw as she is currently running way to rich. Could anyone help from the photo's that I have posted?

If you need more pictures or better quality pictures then I provide them.

Thanks, A881TT

fuel screw is roud the back of the carb, left hand side as you look at it, get a torch in there and you will se it, its sunk into the casting, its a hiff 44 aswell

If its a 1993 1275 then its possible that its a HIF38, all non injection coopers had HIF44's where non-coopers had HIF38's.

spot on, a 1993 standard carb is a HIF38

theres no way by just looking at it like that to see if its been changed for a 44
youd have to measure it

so dont beleive the people above who said HIF44, its more likley not to be. as they both look the same shape

This mini was made with an HIF38, and it looks like an HIF38, so it almost certainly is an HIF38! :xxx:

A881TT - this is a Hif44

As Pauly said above aslong as your mini is untouched it should have a Hif38, however yours has been touched :xxx:

Like greensilver mini said you can tell where the air filter is attached that this is a Hif44

Below is 38 on left and 44 on right

Forget the size of the carbs just look at the back casting design and holes, job done

Ok so with your help I now know I've got a HIF44, is that enough for me to say I definitely have a cooper engine, or is it just as possible it's a 'standard' 1275 with an uprated Carb?

If so how else can I identify if I have a cooper over a normal engine, and really does it even matter anyway, how much of a diefference would it make?

Sorry for so many questions.
