Most MG metro engines have been flogged to within an inch of it's life, a low mileage 1300 from another metro is going to be worth it...
The engine number suggests that it's a 1300 HLE, as it has a wide ratio 3.4 fd box on the bottom

Getting hold of an engine before it comes out of the car is a GOOD THING.... don't know how much you paying for it ( or going to pay ) but anything less than £300 and it's pretty good.

Well i have said i will give £250 for the engine, hubs/brakes and few more bits, i must say it is a shame the car is being sent to the scrap heap as it drives first class but tin worm has taken over, the clutch and gear box are nice and smooth and it has all the old MOT's to prove the mileage so i guess i should snap it up.
Also if i put a good unleaded head and maybe some high lift rockers would this put it near the sort of power i would get from the existing mg unit i have.
With the wide ratio 3.4 fd will that be good for 13 inch rims ?
many thanks.

I picked up a project shell (Mini Mk I) a few years back that included an engine/trans.
The engine ID tag reads "38G390"
The aluminum engine size plate reads "1100"
The dished pistons are marked "MOWOG" with M2007 and a 3 with caret over it
The bore is approx 2.545"
It's mated to an Austin America type gearbox with yoke type outputs and remote shifter.
It looks like it might have been painted all over in silver spray paint (silverseal?) but the PO had started to paint it robins egg blue.
It doesn't appear in any engine listing I've seen.
Anyone have any idea of what vintage/what spec?
Cheers,
Jim

I bought back my mum's old mini mk1 automatic a couple of years ago (in pieces ).
The car came with what was claimed to be a new engine. This engine has number 8S-A-H117, I can't decipher it using the document in the beginning of this thread so can anyone please tell me what "S" means?
Another view:
The original engine has number 8AH-A-H10477 which makes sense:
Thanks in advance

The chassis number MAA2S4 76104
It has a round nose with a trunk with pointy tailights similar to the Austin Apache.
