Can anyone help,I've slowly been compiling a list of engine numbers and associated features and I hope now got a fairly full list... but obviously not complete....
If you have anything to add then please post on the bottom of this and I will add to the sheet ( and then remove the post to keep it short and concise )
EDIT: Gold/Silver seal engine numbers, Link, Link 2.
I have just bought an a+ series 1275 metro engine, but dont know if it is unleaded or not, the numer by the thermostat housing is 12HA87AA 111188 ,
there is a number on the cyl head casting 26D5. any ideas which it is , and if its leaded, what is req'd to convert it to unleaded?, and at what sort of cost?.

The nearest I can find to that isI've just bought a mini engined automatic trike, and need vto know a bit more about the engine.
Looking on your list the nearest number is 99H 791 which tells me it's an A series 998 with leaded head (v useful to know!) from a mini 74-on. My actual number is 99H 79 ZPH - is there any way I can use this to find out what year the engine was manufactured?
99 = 998cc
H = transverse engine
795 = Denotes type of alternator, gearbox, etc the 5 was a guess instead of Z
P = code for carb, dizzy, crank vent system
H = Engine compression
Then engine No 1234 etc

I'd say it is a 1275 high compression, but what does the 157 mean?
My other car is a '67 Austin Cooper S and it had a number glued to it (guessing the rebuilder placed a tag after skimming) and it has 7L931708 on it. The motor has tappet covers and a 1275 head on it. On the back where the fuel pump block off is there is only a cast place for the pump and one threaded bolt. Sure is a lively motor, but would like to know more about the two engines if anyone knows?

i need to know the year so i know which kind of braided oil pick up pipe to get.
The filter housing has TAM 2097 stamped on to it... now.. these are different before and after 88, so does anyone know which years had TAM2097 stamped on them?

Had an alternator and a std ratio A series gearbox on the bottom with a 3.44 final drive.
the *791* engine code was use pretty much across the board, so 85H791 (850) 99H791 (998) and 10H791 (1098), from 1974 upto the introduction of the A+ engine, and the specification of that engine didn't change much in that time.
