when the car is assembled in the factory their is no f/g used to cover holes, why when you replace a panel should the body shop put f/g in.

because the panel on the c pillar was over lapped by 1-2mm the welded, if you fill it with filler it'll fall out. (this is a car thats had most of the passenger side pulled out on the jig after it was crashed)

so that post wasnt as smart as you though it was..........................

and a fiber glass mini isnt a proper mini in my eyes but thats just my opinion.
Id say its more a kit car if its a fiberglass one

the would be ways round not using fiber glass but in this instance it seems to me the easest option for you but only for your rare ocastion

Easy, just a joke  , I wasn't implying I thought his mini was fibreglass :shy: , but your post of 'for boats and crap' just tickled me.

I was more thinking of Mini Marcoses, Jems and the like!

I bought a boot repair panel and a passenger footwell panel. Can i put the panels in the car and weld around the seem without cutting into the car? then just weld around where the hole is to the panel. (the rust has all been cut away) and then just body fill the gaps

... any help :shy:?

Hey up mate,
if you want to do a proper repair cut out all the rust back to good metal and butt weld the new panel / patch in then check the weld both sides visually to make sure it's penetrated BOTH bits of metal, then if required use a flap disc on your grinder to dress the welds. If you are unsure of your welding abilities (as in not sure about a good butt weld) you can just overlap the two bits (but only a little) but this leaves a water trap which can lead to rust.
The way you mention doing it will lead to a sandwich of steel where condensation will build up between the two peices and rot them away.
There are a few posts on this forum about fitting floor pans with good pictures and an easy step by step guide.

Gassless welders are great for use outdoors where wind can be a problem but in my experience I have always found them harder to get a nice weld, (Probably me!)
A welder is a good investment for mini owners and with a bit of practice you can acheive superb results.
Have a look on e bay for a second hand mig welder, my mate bought a 130 amp snap on mig welder for 40 quid and then spent a tenner on a nem liner for it and its great!!

Well the subframes and doors will be in tact after an accident... the shell well..... its called fibre Glass for a reason, it doesn't really bend as well...

I replaced a battery box with a fibreglass replacement mainly because of the fact I had no battery box to hand and I wanted a challenge. so I made one. For some reason its the only non rusty part on my first mini....

Well, luckily I found a polish guy who runs a garage, he doesnt speak any english but hes a damn good welder. Took him an hour to cut out the boot panel and the passenger floor panel, and then seem weld them both on. £60 :)

Hes extremely good & the seams are finished really well. hes going to seem weld my valance on and the 2 side panels for an extra £40 as there's no cutting involved.

Whole cars rust fixed for £100. Id say that's a great job. Hes also offering to respray the car for £150 as long as i key the car down and provide the paint.

So i guess I will sell my spray gun. :D £75 posted? 2hp compressor + gun + hose sound reasonable? (I may still do the paint myself and save myself the cash!)

That sounds like a blinding deal you got there, my local chap who normally does my little MOT bits charged me £80 just for a patch at the rear of a sill!
