Yeh, we all know KAD are the mutts danglies ( attempting to avoid moderation :fear: ) but someone has to find out what are the other options...

So...

I have purchased a KAD V2 copy quickshift, similar ( well looks exactly the same )to one on ebay at the moment Clicky and looks like this...

Posted Image

It is a straight replacement for the existing gearlever so, no cutting and chopping of your existing unit, and has the same finger lift revers as the latest KAD..

I'll post a thread later after I've fitted it, as I have to replace the starte motor on the min first as it's busted...

IMO, it's not worth the hassle, as if you have any problems with your gearbox at the moment ( ie a little stiff getting into first, or notchy from 2nd to 3rd ) they will be amplified to the point where you will get realy p'ed off with it.. and probably do what I did, and snap the f**ker trying to get it into gear...

Fortunately I did this 2 inches from my house so could push my the mini back... but by this time you have already demolished your original stick shift and are completely stuffed..

I've been happy with a standard shift ever since, and must admit the term "quickshift" is a bad use of words, as it will not make your gearchanges and quicker, and if you do try to change gear quick you grind your dogs and baulks thus ruining you geabox...

I take it your doing this test for TMF's benefit then :cheese: :fear:

Ive got a Quickshifter on my car. Not sure what make it is. But it is a very short shift. Not alot of movement at all.

Only problem is, Going from 2nd to 3rd is sometimes a bit tricky, Not sure why. Just seems a little weird.

It takes some getting used to.

Of course, why else would I be doing it  :cheese:

But, found out my starter problem, was actually a duff battery, so have had that on charge all night, may swap the quickshift in this morning and have a play..

GW has completed fist phase of consumer testing... and the results are not good...

First I fitted the new socket onto the gear change housing, as you would expect this was a tight fit, and took a little persuasion ( mallet and piece of wood ) to get the screw holes in the socket lined up with the old holes in the lever housing where the pins had previously been extracted.

Must admit at this point I was thinking, well so far this is better than that cheapy one I got at Himley, that rattled on the housing !...

So I offered up the gear lever....

Cool, it actually went in.. but then I noticed that the screw top was not just sitting on the top where it needed screwing in to secure...

No.... it was actually resting on the nylon dome of the selector mechanism, someones got their dimensions wrong..

The distance between the top of the socket and the rod, is less than the length of the gear lever.... oopsie

I little pressure allowed me to get the thread located, but after only one turn things got a little tight... and actually locked the shift, unable to move it, so I undid it and could see that this had forced the nylon ball into the rod change and cut it..

Shame really, as it looks rather pretty installed, but its going back... I'll leave it attached to the casing so we can discuss the options...

Maybe its because the purple socket bit is pushed down too far.

But you could just drill new holes in the right place if it came to it.

yeah I suppose so!

However surely this "upgrade" is designed to simply bolt on! if it was made correctly no modifications should be necessary!

lets see what they say to gw!
