Hey guys, my wipers had been quite intermitent, so first I replaced the switch/stalk to see if that fixed things, and no luck.

I think it's definately in my wiper motor, I switched out the park switch, and all i'm getting is a noise from the motor, but no movement.

Is it possible for a linkage to have broken inside the motor? Is it easily stripped and fixed?

Any advice? Anyone experienced this before?

Thanks

Dez

Have you tried replacing the park-switch and the plug and part of the loom as supplied by Mini Spares?

It could be that the linkage has seized - take off the wiper arms, release the motor from it's mounting strap and undo the nut which holds the rack to the motor. The cable should slide out easily. If it doesn't, check the spindles where the wiper arms fit and see if they turn easily - it should take next to no effort to turn them. If that all checks out OK and there isn't loads of hardened grease on the cable assembly, it may be the motor has expired,

Thanks guys.

Yup, I tried a new stalk/switch on my steering column and also tried a new park switch. I did not try a new connector block, didn't have one to hand.

I will try to remove the cable from the motor and reattach it, because the motor is making noise when I switch it on, just nothing is happening in relation to the wiper arms.

Thanks again.

Slight Hi Jack...

Does anyone know of any good wiper "upgrades" from the scrappy ?
MX5, MGB or similar ?

Because (let's face it) the Mini wipers (mine anyway) are worse then rubbish...

Best wishes
Monty

The Mini system is perfectly adequate when it's in good condition - as above you'll probably find horrid dried up grease and partially seized wheelbox spindles if you take it all off and strip it down.

All you need then is good quality wiper arms and blades - not the cheap carp that's sold at most of the Mini shows. The best ones are the OE black ones as fitted to the later Minis or the Minispares heavy duty ones with the wider arm. You need the wiper system to be in top notch condition to use these, though.
