The best - Nick (the Carbon Weezel) is extremely consciencious (sp) and very dedicated to making quality parts, better than Curley for visible weave parts from based on what I've purchased from both firms - Curley is good, don't get me wrong, but they are a bit more of a high volume company it seems, Nick is an "every part counts either for or against my reputation" kind of guy...

Higjly recommended

Since I don't need a parking brake since the car will be track only for now, I thought I'd save some unsprung weight...

From this:
Attached File  DSC06613.jpg   76.56K   29 downloads

To this:
Attached File  DSC06614.jpg   74.59K   36 downloads

Saved:
0.7lbs per side on discs (240 X 24mm vented to 240 X 20mm vented and crossdrilled OMP 2025 Fiesta with shallower hat due to caliper offset)
4.5lbs per side on calipers (Ford Sierra single piston with handbrake to HiSpec Ultralite 2 piston ally models)...

...so 5.2lbs per side, or 10.4lbs for the car. I'm not going to calculate dollar / lbs savings as my pocket book will get angry, but 10lbs is 10 lbs...

Cheers,

Aric

I looked into carbon rims but the size is a problem they only make bigger than 19's. And price even for me was out of the park, they are like $2000 per wheel.

I found these guys - no idea of cost though - the non-spoked ones look nice and simple and light for a racer....hmmmm..

Here's what they wrote me....note the price per wheel!

Hi Aric

Currently we are not producing 13inch wheels for track cars, only wheels for drag cars. However we are investigating manufacturing a larger range of wheels and 13inch is defiantly one size we are looking at. We are going to be able to produce a range of backspacing. The wheels will cost between $US2000 and $US2500 a rim.

Message: Greetings,

I am interested in your carbon fiber racing wheels.

I have a sports racer with 13" diameter wheels, (8" front width, 10" rear width). These wheels are of different offset / backspacing, with Ford 108mm PCD (bolt centeric)

I'd like to be able ot understand first off if your carbon wheels (any design OK) are available in the above general sizes and what flexibility of backspacing, etc there are. Also, can I get a rough idea of cost?

Looking forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Aric

Yeah let us know what they come back to you with

yeah unfortunately Carbon rims are not cheap.. Would be pretty cool though. The other thing I think I heard with the Carbon wheels is their impact strength is not the best but overall very strong just not good if you hit too many potholes :( =]
