LOL. Yeah just normal household emulsion paint from your nearest store. - But most don't stock black paint so find somewhere that'll mix it. The lad who mixed mine up thought I was taking the p1ss when I asked him for black matt emulsion.

Keep the votes coming on the seat covering - fun to see people's opinions... i can see things are swaying th Alacantara direction....need to ask around for a shop that will do this....good stuff.

I got a little Dremel-happy today, and sawed off the back of my Monte. I've been meaning to do it for a while, as a removable rear will allow easy engine service without removing the entire body which would be a pain in the a&&.

The first few pictures are of what is left over after the Dremel shut off. in the one of the car, you can just make out four clekos that outline where the NACA ducts will go for the engine air intake.

The Last two show the mocked up NACA duct (gotta redo these in GRP, they are perspex now) and the Reverie micropore 75mm ductings from the the ducts to the Reverie Airbox I had custom made a few months ago...

Thanks Ian.

Yeah, composite - yours too? Pretty cool stuff, but quite thick - almost 1/4 inch....Also have a piece pre-formed for a front "flat floor"

Steady progress as I approach final assembly. Finally have something to show for all the work. First piccies are of some of the parts back from powder.

The next pics are of the welding progress I've been making. the cross brace is to meet the regs for some of teh track day event santioning bodies here in teh states. the seat belt anchor pts are so I can use "made to length" sewn end / bolt in hardware for my harnesses for a cleaner look.

All that's left to do no is attached the ant-roll bar mounting tabs to the rear frame assy (my next Christmas present from Chris...getting impatient!) and then it's off to final powder on the frame so I can start assembly!

Cheers,

Aric

While I wait for my next round of parts from Chris (welding up anti-roll bar brackets are preventing me from sending the frame to powder), I'm passing the time building my remaining bulkheads. I also purchased a high accuracy digital postal scale on the 'Bay this past week to do a some weight accounting on the car. one of the classes I plan to run the Monte in required a maximum wieght (unladen) of 1300lbs with the size tubing I have for the main cage (1-3/8" X 0.095").

I was reasonably confident I would be well under that weight, but I was curious to see how much. So far, after weighing damn near everything I have for the car, with the bare frame and some estimates, the all up dry weight is looking to come in at around:

Full road spec, two seats, reverse motor, lights, etc.):
1174lbs / 534kg, or 347BHP / metric ton (assuming 185BHP)

Stripped racing spec:
1106lbs / 503kg, or 368BHP / metric ton

Even if I'm missing 50lbs somewhere (unlikely at this point I hope!), I should meet the 1300lb limit nicely....

Oh, and I should be getting my full race spec fuel cell back in the next week or so - will post piccies when I do!

Cheers,

Aric

More Race Car Porn:

I got my fuel cell back. The great guys at Fuel Safe, www.fuelsafe.com, made me a FIA FT3 certified bladder cell by essentially chopping the back off the tank I got from Chris for the car and moulding a custom fuel cell bladder to suit.

Attached File  DSC02165.JPG   60.34K   55 downloads

The cell features full foam baffling, a screw-on cap with built-in flapper valve, -6 AN fittings for return, and vent (with integral check ball roll over valve) on the top side, and a -6 fitting for the fuel pump pick-up on the bottom. I also had them do a custom capacitive fuel level sender to suite the Digidash Pro.

The dern thing actually got it's own FIA homologation serial number!

Fun stuff...
