kinda like this but with the right angles on both sides of the catch and the up-right itself almost box like to give it a bit more rigidness

Yeah I see what you mean, that would work better but I don't think there is alot of room on the catch itself though, but will check tomorrow

attatch the angles so they are almost part of the lock.. i mean catch.. so you bolt through them... so the bolt that holds the catch to the slam goes throug the angles to and the up-rite bolts/welds the the angles

:D

yeah?

Gotcha, using the same bolts would make it more secure aswell, just got to make sure theres enough room for the lock and spring to operate

I'm at a complete standstill now Matt, theres nothing more I can do to the car until the engine is here and in, I can't even buy anything that I need for it in the meantime as I don't know what fits

Basically my engine builder has been in and out of hospital having some scans done (which he told me about weeks ago) but he was hoping to have my engine done before all these tests but things haven't turned out well his side and he's been signed off sick, he's still been going in getting what he can get done on mine and others work inbetween his tests but he's has some further bad news on his scans so his head has not been in the right place.

I won't go into detail whats up as thats obviously not my place but I have spoke to him and he said the bottom end is all done along with the head and he just needs to clay the pistons and finish off a couple of bits, I asked if its easier I'll get someone else to finish off due to his problems but he wants to finish it as he wants only his name on it (as its going in a mini) which is fair enough, so I'll wait

Cheers guys, thanks for the kind words, its nice to know :)

As I mentioned above I spoke to him last week and he is trying to get everything done but I need to tread carefully and let him finish it in his own time due to some health worries, he did have a small backlog of work aswell before I dropped everything off and the health side of things hasn't helped........he knows I'm at a standstill as we discussed this but he also knows that I could if I wanted to to pay him and pick up what he's done already and give it to another builder to finish off the last few bits so I can get on with things, but as its getting towards the end of the year and most of the shows (and weather!) will start to end I'm not missing out on much at the moment, the last time I drove this was in november so I'm getting used to just looking at it not doing much at the moment.......which is nice :errr:

Also he's near silverstone and I'm down here in kent so he's not exactly around the corner, Ideally I only want him to build it rather than others getting there paws on it, so I'll wait

Funny you should mention that Mr J, I'm picking up the engine tomorrow morning, well half of it anyway! he found a small mark on the mating surface on the head but aint sure how it got there so he gave it back to Rob Walker (miniman) to sort it for him, Robs been doing all the machine work for him so I'm happy to have some of his kudos thrown in there

So update tomorrow (if all goes well) will be a picture of a bottom end and a head which I'm gonna paint in hot pink, should look good

Xmas has come early! new 2.0 engine is here, half of it anyway :P

Posted Image

As its xmas I unwrapped it

Got a small Fram filter on it and the aero connector is short which will help massively for clearance, you can see the new feed point for the vtec (which will go to the head) I'm gonna take off that oil pressure switch on the take off and put my 3 way union on there so I can mount the oil pressure/temp senders etc

Its got ARP head studs aswell, pistons are 84mm 'teg type-r jobbies (standard bore) ACL race bearings and original crank was checked, sump has been baffled, compression ratio is about 11:8, P2V has all been checked, my next job - get some paint on it :D

He found a very small mark on the head face and wasn't sure how it happened but thats been sent back to Rob Walkers to sort out, its not a problem for me as I still got my old b16 head here, so I can at least paint the block and chuck it in with my old b16 head and see where I stand for clearance etc and start getting things done my end

While I've been waiting for the engine I bought a new 68mm throttle body from across the pond

Posted Image

Its an Omni power one and comparing it with the standard one this one DOES NOT have an idle adjustment screw (brass screw on the original)

Posted Image

Gonna put my old MAP sensor on this to 'block' up the hole as the DTA don't use it

Posted Image

Or I might get a small plate made up to make it look a bit neater with an o ring rather than having the original plug left unconnected.....

I've also been counting my gear ratios, as you do

Posted Image

Posted Image

Only because I found my original honda final drive and started counting, as you do

Posted Image

I found it was a 4.2, its supposed to be a 4.4, that got me thinking so started counting the gear sets, found 1 to 4 all correct but my 5th was different to whats its supposed to be, it was 0.875 and is meant to be 0.848

I know all the above makes no difference whatsoever as I'm using a custom 3.4FD but was good to have a look and understand a bit more about it

While I was picking up the engine we got talking about clutches and I happened to mention I'm gonna be using a stage 4 paddle competition clutch!

Posted Image

He had a d series turbo sitting there in a civic and he said "thats the same stage 4 CC try it out" OMG! the pedal was smoother than my mini with the 14mm AP! He said CC are not as heavy feel as what people make out, yes they are a little like an on/off switch but alot better than others out there

Gonna get the head back in a few days but that won't stop me putting this block in and setting final engine positioning and going from there

Getting excited about it again which is good this time of year with the colder nights setting in the garage but I don't care

All fun, again :D

Cheers sonikk4

Its not gonna be a show car or anything as that kinda stuff don't appeal to me, its just a road car with some usable power and a mini that still looks like one.....
