im very confused, which engine is which, dont build the wrong one up, and when can i have a go?

All you need to know is the B18 block is the same size as the B20 block, the B20 has bigger pistons and a different crank and rods

The B18 bottom end is being sold, the top end (head) is going on the B20

Hopefully they should play together nicely

Kam you sure you dont want to change your mind and go with the D16z6 conversion? 126bhp sohc vtec :L with a nice turbo setup could see figures of about 250bhp on standard internals :L

Sounds good Nick, tempting, but I'm gonna stick with this one. See what I done there? I stuck to my guns! :techsupport:

B20 is going ahead, pistons are being ordered :)

Nah, Le Mans won't be happening, I'm gonna work at a chilled pace with this one, TMF 'ring run is the next aim

Its not gonna be a massive spec with big numbers or anything, this is more of a case of "no replacement for displacement" basically a good start point, this engine will more than likely not have a turbo while the standard nose is on there, the frame governs how much room you have and with the allspeed in a standard nose you don't have room - period

My aim with this swap is to have some nice power low down in the revs, some effortless pull without having to rev the nuts off it, but still able to rev the nuts off it when asked for! :techsupport: I'm guessing the final figure might be around a standard vauxhall redtop, can't remember exactly what they are but around 150 hp with 145 lb ft???? I think thats right? :) Either way it will be alot different from 165 hp and 116 lbft what my B16 made

Got a few days off work so trying to get done what I can, unfortunately the pistons are gonna take a few weeks as I think they have to be made, I still need to drop off my block and head to get some work done on it aswell, and find a place who can shot peen my rods, all takes time :(

In the meantime, I found the cam side mount holder on the B20 is the exact same as my B16 (two studs), the B18 has three

Posted Image

Also the bottom plate from the B18 fits nicely on the B20, all interchangeable stuff. My B16 didn't have this plate, it really is a godsend when taking off or putting on the gearbox on your own as it keeps the engine level and at the right height

Posted Image

So I chucked my old gearbox on just for a pic really >_<

Posted Image

Then started on the suspension, I got a new set of hilos and obviously some red dots, these red dots are little bit taller than standards so getting them in was a PITA to say the least, but got there

Posted Image

I also spaced out the bump stop, so tyre contact on full lock at the same time as full drop should prevent any contact - I think! :(

I bought some minispares top arm refurb kit last year so the top arms should be fine to reuse, I will take them apart though and clean the lot up, would be rude not to

The frame is also now finished, drilled some holes and got some high tensile bolts and whacked them on an welded up each end of the bolts and slung some paint on

Posted Image

Yes I know its OTT as its already been welded but this frame now has no warranty so its all on my head - and I'm a belt n braces type person

Finished up the front bar aswell, chopped out a very small section and plated it up and duly threw some paint on

Posted Image

The above is just preventive maintenance as the manifold will sit close depending on final engine clearance.....

Also got a new OEM oil pump, getting a B20 one is pants as they probably don't work at high revs so this one is for a 1.8 type-r, local honda wanted nearly £300! Got this for just under three figures inc delivery from taiwan!

Posted Image

I know someone who can take it apart and check its all fine so no worries there :P

Also I needed some valve stem seals, Honda UK want about £8 each on these! so by my calculations for sixteen thats around £128? So I got them

Posted Image

for $60 inc delivery from our friends across the pond!

Sort it out Honda, its only for a mini! :D

Dam it KAM your a mad man. Also you sure you can't fit a turbo under a standard length nose. I'm sure you can :genius: Just means more chopping of the front :D

Chopping the front yes but mine has to look standard. I will bet you one english pound (online contract so legal binding) that you can't fit a turbo in an allspeed frame with a standard length steel front that still looks normal, another frame maybe but not with this frame, james showed it can be done with his build but look how much it hangs out

No way you can retain a standard look, if you reckon you can - take the bet! ;)

If not then put the money towards your turbo - I know you will head down that road........

Hummm sounds like a challenge  The guy at the rolling road said " yeah you probably don't need much more power than this". I was like no chance, the more the better, I'm gonna put a turbo on it at some point. Only 374bhp per tonne (roughly) he just smiled. I don't think he's met many of us mini 16v people. We're not quite normal I rekon ;)

Hummm sounds like a challenge

Over the gearbox??? that would be one hell of a custom setup!!! The only one I know is the JS Tuned one, but its the clearance between the exhaust manifold and the front thats the issue, the JS one has its own custom frame so everything is packed up as tight as poss to give maximo clearance - the allspeed frame is made for a clubman......

Mind you, on boost with some vtec its pretty awesome! :) :yinyang: :turtle:

Nah, I prefer NA :)

na kam u need forced induction in your life :) yeah a custom turbo manifold that sits over the box wouldnt be that hard to do, yeah it may increase lag that little bit, but you will love it even more when she comes on boost :L theres always the supercharger option aswell :)

Turbo is the way forward but to do it the way you want to by keeping it looking standard would be hard. There is a lad on turbo mini forum who lives near me who has a 1.8 vtec turbo which is 250bhp at 10psi, but his intercooler is on the outside aswell as the turbo sticking through the grill which doesnt really make it a sleeper like you have. Have a look at it on his website http://www.jamesfawcett.co/
