Well whether I like it or not I know the crank has gotta come out and get the block honed with new springs fitted all round, great :(

Springs = Rings :lol:

Only two washers came out? Is that normal?

Yup, Thrust washers

As I will be getting the block honed I wasn't sure if these oil ports needed to come out?

Under crown cooling jets is what they're sometimes called.

if I'm only gonna change the spring set on that one piston that is,

Rings

Looking good though Kam!

Cheers mate, have you started a build diary on here yet? Which frame are you using, if its an allspeed one then check out Gingermonkeys build, allspeed b18 in standard length

Aint been doing much on the car lately as I have been studying :P

I did however get my powdercoated items come through

:) Nuff said really

I didn't want them in pearlescent caribbean blue (car colour) as thats what a normal person would do and I don't do normal  this way they should hopefully match up nicely with any hoses around the bay

As for the engine rebuild, I'm currently swotting up on honda rebuilds before I tackle it, managed to get hold of a book from across the pond, was a couple of pre-owned ones over here but wanted it new....

Posted Image

From the day I paid for it I got it in four days from the USofA which is quite something really :P **Take note british postal system** :P

Also bought a rebuild dvd from across the pond, I like to have as much arsenal as possible at my disposal before I head in!!!!! I've got the Bill Sollis 1380 builder dvd and was hoping to find similar for hondas but there aint surpringsly alot out there? Theres a few books and loasda info on the information superhighway but I'm more of a dvd than reading type person.....

I'm not skim reading through the book or the dvd, I am taking my time with it and soaking in as much stuff as possible, however it is funny how you can make a big deal over something but once you start properly looking at it and reading up about it it don't seem half as bad or that daunting, so as and when I'm ready I'll crack on with it :P

And no, I still haven't bought a clutch yet

The engine re-build is comming along fantastically - I haven't started it yet :gimme: but I'm almost done reading my book, so I'm nearly ready to start :D

In the meantime I took the block to an engine builder and got the walls re-honed, he chucked it in the hot tank aswell and cleaned all the crud off it, all the paint is comming off in places now so I might just strip it and leave it bare, main thing is its been re-honed

Posted Image

Posted Image

He asked me what engine it is, and when I told him and that its for a mini he and others just started laughing and said "You'll never get the power down?" Really? ;D :gimme:

I decided to pick up one of these aswell

Posted Image

So not only can I clean engine parts but I can also clean the dishes aswell after! Two birds with one stone! :gimme:

Then my day started to just get better and better

Had these come through

Posted Image

A fellow and very kind mini owner sent me these from canada, was meant for his B16 build but he went overbore and so didn't need these, I say very kind because he just sent them through for nothing from canada! Hows that for a mini community! Thanks alot James

As I recently managed to get my hands on some EK9 civic type-r cams for my head, I've gone one better and managed to find by luck an EK9 civic type-r head!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Its comes with no cams (which I've got) but all the valvetrain so 8600rpm here I come!

Posted Image

Both the civic and integra type-r use the same head which is my B16a2 one but the only differences are the valvetrains above and cams but this also this gets a 'mild' port and polish from the factory

I think its around 10 thou port, you can feel a slight difference in the inlet port where the casting join is

My B16a2

Posted Image

B16b

Posted Image

You can only just feel the casting join in all the ports whereas on mine theres an edge to it, other than that all the stamps look pretty much the same

Posted Image

So there I was pleased as punch, what a day! But then the icing on the cake......

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

1.8 integra type-r bottom end

I think this might go nicely with my civic type-r head and cams and 3.4 final drive and rovers finest steel wheels :D

The above was found by luck, came from a '99 teg with 110k on it, the guy breaks 'tegs and his mate was after a head, so he went out and got one and started breaking the car, by pure luck I call up asking for another part and got chatting away and he mentions a recently aquired bottom end sitting in his lock up, the rest as they say is history

The above was not part of the plan! obviously my plan keeps taking a sidewards and not forwards movement but the next step is deciding whether to get some civic type-r pistons or keep the 'teg ones? civic ones will bump up the compression but either way this bottom end is gonna be taken apart (hmmm sound familar?) so pistons have gotta come out anyway

My B16 once rebuilded will be sold, but I'm rebuilding this first as I need an engine in my car! I would like to drive my car again!

Been checking the difference between the blocks, couple of minor differences, first one that sticks out is the engine mount on the cam side, B16a2 has two studs

Posted Image

But the B18 has three for its mount

Posted Image

Posted Image

So I'm gonna take off the mount from the B16 and swap them over, I need to keep my B16 ones.....all will be revealed later why :D

Other difference is on the back of the block just above the coolant back pipe, there is a plug sensor on the B18

Posted Image

But on my B16 there aint a plug in there, checked all my previous pics when I first bought the engine home and nothing

Posted Image

I think it might be for the knock sensor but not sure? either way its wasn't there on mine so I'll ignore it!

Posted 11 January 2011 - 08:29 PM

I also picked up the top half of the cambelt cover

Posted Image

My block is 263mm and B18 is 270mm so my cambelt cover wont fit, or the cambelt!

Then the biggest worry of all - my custom exhaust manifold.......

I've tried to pull the manifold down as far as I can

Posted Image

Posted Image

This is the most I can pull the sleeves out before the slits start showing through, I don't think its gonna be enough, my manny hugs both the block and sump so it might clear them both but then comes the next problem - my link pipe is 2" and I'm gonna need 2.5" for a 1.8! so that means its gotta drop even lower so the bigger link pipe can clear my gear linkage and tunnel, it was already close as it is

Spoke with the guys who made the manifold, he said "no worries" he can 'add' on a few extra cm of sleeving at the bottom of the manifold so I can drop it further and make up a link pipe of 2.5" following the angles of my current one for around 80 notes :gimme: Just gotta decide what I'm doing about my back box as thats a 2" opening aswell......

So everythings here to get started on, and I will but I got a book to finish first.......and maybe buy some new pistons....

God I love cars :gimme:

I wasn't!!!! there I was happy as larry going about my way and I seem to find things that can be hard to find! >_<

Plan is to get this to Le Mans in june

i love this

Cheers mate, I don't

I can understand that!

B16 will be sold once built, This build will be a 1.8 integra type-r bottom end with maybe (civic type-r pistons) and civic type-r top end complete coupled up to my Y21 (standard 1.6) box with my ever faithful 3.4 final drive, should get me around standard integra power (187hp) or god knows what with the civic pistons and a slightly higher compression???? Might need LSD but I want to see what its like first without it......

so after all that basically a type-r engine :-

And yes, keeping steelies! :( I aint getting big alloys, no way as it won't go with the rest of the cars look, not a fan of big alloys on minis, yes they might corner better with a hybrid engine but I'm sticking to my guns - minis look better when they look like a mini inside and out
