Let me know when your popping down mate as I do want this to be a roundnose :- clubmans nice and everything but theres no point in me keeping it looking rio with a clubby front, still trying to get used to it, I like it but it don't look right to me

i cant imagin the wheelspin you must get, must be in every single gear?

Its honestly not that bad, check out the vids on the bottom of page 20 and halfway down 22 and the track ones from the bottom of page 23

I know people said it will be undriveable but its not as bad as I thought it would be but I'm using Watsons 3.4 FD, can't imagine what it would be like without it or even with 10" wheels?????? masssssssssive respect there to those lot! :-

Another silly little update, however progress is still progress to me, even more so when its too cold to get motivated in the first place :D

As I have already sent off my engine mounts to be poly filled, today I sent off the rocker cover along with the the inlet to be powdercoated, I included the cambelt covers aswell but they wasn't expecting them so hopefully they can sort them out aswell

Posted Image

Also my integra type-r throttle body turned up earlier

Posted Image

Got a bit more opening than mine

Posted Image

Side by side

Posted Image

You can see the MAP sensor plug on the top of the integra one, I don't need this with the DTA so it will be blanked off, or I could just leave it? life has some difficult choices sometimes :D

Not sure whats going on with the bottom on both though? On mine one of my coolant pipes goes in on the right but the left has to be blocked off, so I'm guessing do the same on the new one?

I decided earlier I am gonna change the head gasket, was still having second thoughts about it as I really don't want to be taking off more than necessary to change the cams, anyone can take something apart but sometimes putting something back together properly is another ball game! Head gasket don't need doing anyway as the engine had 63k on it when I bought it but thought sod it - I gotta learn! :)

Oh dear, paranoid tidyness kicking in again!

Off with its head!!! :D

The above few pics mean nothing to me, so if anyone in the know wants to let me know if all that crud is normal then feel free.....

Was pleased with myself today :D

Speaking of difficult life choices.....do I take all the valves off the head and clean them up with the head aswell and lap them in? Is it worth it? I've only ever taken rockers off before on the mini but no valves, taking valves apart on this is daunting :dozing: oh and I've never lapped anything before, its just something I came across :P

Help!

So when you take them out, and decide to have the head re-worked, and bigger valves fitted what are we going to say?

And yes, you should have it bored out.

And yer that super charger looks sweeeetttttt :)

At the very least, decoke the lot, makes one hell of a difference (did on my gay series anyway)

Head is not gonna be ported/polished, I can get some type-r valves Chris but revving to 8600 rather than 8250 is just pub ammo to me, am I really gonna make more power after 8k?

Whooper charger is a no no, if I kept clubman front then maybe but eventual plan is to go roundnose so that will mean there will be just enough room for a standard engine!

De-coke? Whats that? Do I have to remove the valves/springs for it? Really don't want to......in way over my head at the mo! :)

kam did you know the k20a head fits on this block? means you can get even more power :) id personally say take the valves out and clean them and maybe get your pistons re worked and smoothed off perhaps.

you can still turbo these under a standard length roundnose. Ill find the link to the thread in which its been done :P

cant find the build thread, but here are 2 video's from youtube

I recomend taking the valves out and de-coking it all, then lapping the valves back in.

There may be no need but it couldn't hurt, and if you've never done it before it's all good practice.
The way i've cleaned up valves before is wrap carboard around the stem, fit them into the chuck of a drill and gently rub some emery cloth across them, makes them look like new. When de-coking the head chambers, make sure you don't touch the mating surfaces of the head.

Don't mean to insult your knowledge if you already knew that though.

You can get the valves "like new" doing this:

See all that black/brow crap stuck on the piston and valves? (its coke, otherwise known as unburnt carbon)
Take it off and you will gain performance, and get a cleaner burning engine.

You dont have to take the valves out to do it, as the head itself with want de-coking anyway, just use a lil wire brush in a drill, and be careful not the scratch anything, or damage the mating surfaces. make sure you clear all the crap away afterwards aswell.

:P

Nice vids Nick but.......I'm probably gonna get flamed for this.......believe me I'm not chasing more power  I know I can have alot more but whats the point? I mean I'm having fun with this and its standard engine and as it don't look like it can give anything out on the road and so its got nothing to prove its a win win situation even if I don't touch it, the new mods are done as these bits were coming off

Thanks mate, appreciated

Yeah getting the car just about done in time was a bit crazy, was mega pleased with myself though I made it there and back, but lesson was also learnt - if you slack off during the earlier months its gonna come round and bite you in the ass come crunchtime when you still got a list of things to do

So I'm not saying to rush things but rather than sitting around pondering whether to get on with something, just do it :)

Good work there mate. I've been thinking about putting type-r cams in mine but will just get it running right first. In response to the more power talk here is the thread that they were talking about. I've been looking at it quite closely. To the point I might be watching some turbos on ebay :)

16v thread for mega turbo lovelyness

I'm still needing to get a standalone ECU set up so I can get my car running nice then it'll be there waiting to get mapped for a turbo when the day comes. Have been looking at kits but will over time just get bits when they come up cheap and when I have it all......... Well it's gonna be fun. How much did you pay for your cams?? Were they an ebay find?

Theres another green one on 16v, again cant remember the thread name or anything :) but that has a 1800 vtec turbo under a standard front and is absolutley crazy. Ive always wanted to stick a vtec turbo in a mini but the insurance would kill me if i could get any at all

Ill just stick with ma micra turbo idea instead  should get about 130 off brake out of it if i do it right

Anythings possible to a certain degree in a standard length roundnose but it only depends on one thing - the frame The allspeed one has probably the least amount of headache to install into a clubby or an extended nose compared with the others and lets face it if I can do it on my own then surely that shows how straightforward it is?

I'm not sure Chris how your gonna mount all that.......don't tell me your gonna chuck a clubby front on there? :)

I don't know what frame was being used in the vid above with the turbo but I'm guessing its either homemade or the MTB kit like in the link above, the MTB kit does fit under standard roundnose but I went allspeed as I wanted a frame from over here and someone on the other end of the phone incase of any problems

Like I said its all down to the frame, the rest is just kids stuff

Not ebay mate, through another civic forum, found them by luck aswell, paid £200 for them, unless you get the valvetrains aswell you have to stick to your stock rev limit, my mini rev counter only goes to 8k anyway so thats good enough for me

I do hope you get your ecu sorted out, I take it the guy that worked on the ecu before is not around now to sort it out? Omex/DTA would be a good choice if you do go standalone its just the cost of mapping is a bummer :)
