Hey i also have a j reg mini running on 12's, I belive that if you want to go about fitting 10 inch wheels you need to get a break conversion kit. I wanted to get 10 inch but was advised not too as its too expensive to get some good quality breaks.

10" wheels will not fit on mini,s made after i thinks its 1982 when they changed to 12" wheels this is because they have 8.4" disc brakes and 10" will not fit over the discs, If you wont to run 10" you have to either have original cooper disc brakes which are smaller(7.5" i think) which are rare and very expensive or you can get a 7.5" disc brake conversion kit from minisport costs something like £350.00 then 10" will fit.
The only other way is to buy a special wheel with a -15 offset(like the chrome ones i have) there specialy designed to fit over the 8.4" discs, But the ones i have are the only wheel that will fit,i could be wrong but i ve never seen anyother wheels for sale that will fit(mambas, revos, minlghts and all the rest will not fit) HOPE THIS HELPS
