However the dreaded poo coloured stuff has spread further than I had planned for!

Found this bad metal when using a flap disk on the grinder to get rid of all the surrounding paint and underseal. This ensures a good weld.

Luckily I think I have enough boot floor metal left to make a decent repair panel to overlap the new floor panel.

I am determined to have smurfy on his wheels by sunday!

Al all that looks REALLY REALLY great.

That kit that you ordered from Z-cars, it looks like it's got everything you need, eh? Just drop it in, put in an engine and off you go? Looks real quality stuff too! :D

I am really impressed with the quality of the kit.
You can really see where your money goes because the engineering is top notch.

But far from finished because I still have to do the underside, then dress the welds with a grinder and paint it and seal it. That's when the sexy pictures will start because car will be transforming very rapidly.

I.m also having a problem getting one of the driveshafts out of the metro hub because i think it has rusted solid, so I've drenched it in penetrative spray and will let it soak till tommorrow.

Exposed more C**p metal where the box section meets the sill but this will have to wait till after Southern Mini Days

Really nice work being done here! Good patching. The floor pan should definitely be single skin, looks like some right bodging in the past. The kit you have is really nicely done, LOVE the new rear radius arms with the hubs in. Real quality product.
Which bits of the Metro hubs are stuck together?

The only change you have to make to the hubs is to send off the drive shaft to get cut down as you don't need it for drive just to keep hubs together.

I am having a problem with one hub tho. Got them both from a scrap dealer but one shaft will not budge from hub. Must be rusted solid. have been wd40-ing and hitting with a hammer for two days now.

Just got back from A & E because got angle grinder dust in my eye! Was so bloody painful when blinking I had to hold my eye open for 3 hours whilst waiting to be seen by doctor.

Then they numbed my eye with stinging stuff and put fluoerescent liquid in it and picked all the metal and dust out.

Doesn't hurt too much now but was crying out of that eye foe 30mins just now. All the yellw flouro goo was coming back out.
Weird.

Right holiday now so no news for a week, but I'll be straight back in the saddle when I come home.

Don't actually really want to go away. I'd much rather stay and crack on with Smurfy.

Does that make me freak?

I know you probably won't see this till your return, but why can't you just put an empty CV in the hub instead of cutting it down?

If you cant get the joint out by pelting it (which usually works) then get a three legged puller from somewhere to drive it out, or take it to a local engineer. A 10 ton bench press will sort it.
