But as usual, not everything went to plan...

...there was a previous repair on the offside floor pan at the front. Right where a mounting point for the roll cage will be.

It was quite lumpy and was sitting higher than the other side and so needed some attention in order to get the cage to sit nicely.

It looked like a simple task. A few gentle persuasions with a panel hammer should've done it. But on the third hit a shed load of corroded metal hit my drive way and revealed a right mess.

I should've been suspicious of the amount of underseal on the inside of this floor pan.

So I scratched my head and decided that this would'nt be a problem to me with my new found welding skills.

So I attacked it with the grinder, removing as much rust as I could get to and making sure the I revealed some descent metal to weld to. Then applied loads more weldable zinc primer.

I then made up some more repair panels. The smaller one is to go on the top side of the repair as it is thicker and will provide a sturdy foundation for the cage to bolt to. Especially when combined with the bottom repair too.

Slowly but surely at the mo but I am learning loads. My advice to anyone thinking about a project is get the right tools for the job and just have a go.

I have got dis-heartened at various stages so far but once you get over something it is great.

Did some more repairs today, in between the sporadic rain bursts every 20mins.
Fixed up the all the holes in bulk head.

This bit was really awkward to get to. Especially with the grinder, and was pretty tricky with the mig welder too!

Not alot!
This is my first build and have thrown myself in at the deep end. But saying that I have recieved lots of valid advice from members of this forum to get me un-stuck. And when you do get stuck in you learn fast. It's been great.

It's annoying because I'm doing all repairs on my drive way so my progress is very weather dependant.

have you thought about getting one of those gazebo things, i think they are about £20-£30 from somewhere like argos. that would make it much better to work outside.

I Must admit braver man than I for doing the Conversion on the drive. My friend uses a Cheap Gazebo thingy, to keep the rain his car. You can buy them with sides aswell.
