Right now i really feel like i am getting somewhere!

Ordered 2.5L of "Sky Blue" and 250ml of gloss black (for the roof :) )

Now i just need to hit up a B&Q for some rollers and thinners...

Incidentally, will normal white spirit do as thinners, or do i need proper paint thinners? (expensive :D )

Let the madness begin!

Id use proper thinners.

Its not that expensive.

5L of basic thinner is about £11 at our local paint shop. The better stuff is about £18-20.

Cheers guys,

I'll have a hunt around for a paint shop, i was just going on halfrauds prices as inner london is a bit shy of diy/motor spares type shops lol!

I have read loads of articles on the internet and i think the problems with it not hardening come from not using enough thinners. I think a lot of people get concerned when they see how thin the paint is getting and slap it on thicker to gain coverage after a few coats. The trick is to have it the consistency of milk and aim for coverage after about 4-5 coats apparently...

I'll start with the roof first anyway and use that as a bit of a training exercise, which reminds me i need to get hold of some metal sheet to replace my sunroof!

i used white spirit when i did my mini with no problems. as with all painting the prep is the most important part.

think i did 6/7 coats to get a decent finish

Cheers Jonez, a lot of the information online talks about "mineral spirits" which basically applies to any thinner that works with oil based paints if i have it correct?

White spirit is easily obtained which is a good thing in my case!

Hi. I use white spirit to thin down oil based undercoats at work EVERYDAY!!! takes a bit of mixing in but works well. Just a point....do not expect to be able to see clearly if you're doing it in a small garage!!! It gives of a SHED LOAD of eye stinging fume! After 15 mins your breath stinks of it too! Proper thinners eveporate quicker so the paint dries quicker and you don't generally have "the side effects". Ultimately, I'd go with thinners.
Cheers.....Dave

dont use thinners, you'll end up with nothing but a mess.
