Van:
1976 not sure if it's a '76 loom:
I won't bore you which the details of how it came about. I need to replace my ignition switch and want to be sure I connect the right wires to the correct terminals. I am running a 9 volt coil with a ballast resistor (which I also need to replace) From what I have just read and please correct me if I'm wrong or congratulate me if I'm right  . . .

Red and White Wire >> goes from terminal #1 >> to >> Solenoid

Brown >> goes from terminal #2 >> to >> Solenoid

White >> goes from terminal # 3 >> to Ballast Resistor

Ordinarily I would simply just replace it wire by wire however I'm not sure if the wires are correct to being with?!:

Not sure what terminal is what, but...

Brown is Permanent live ( so is the feed IN to the ignition switch )

White is ignition live ( so when the key is turned to the 'ignition position' that will become live by being connected through the switch to the brown wire )

White/Red is the starter line ( so when you turn the ignition key to the sprung start point the white/red wire becomes live )

Course once I got under there - there were x2 black and one red. With the battery disconnected 'guessing which went where' then connecting the battery I soon found out which wire did what.

You gotta love after market wiring!?

Hi,

998cc Saloon 1982

I have a similar problem, but in addition to the Brown, White, White with Red Tracer, I have an additional Green Wire with White Tracer - cannot seem to find this in the Haynes Manual?

Can anyone tell me what this wire caters for?

Not aftermarket wiring either as its part of the switch

Si

It should be a Light Green with a white tracer, in which case its a switched feed to the radio if fitted.

1st position, ACC or Accessory, should feed the LGW (light green/white)

2nd position, IGN or Ignition, should feed the W (white)
