Just a thought, but the 2 vents on the sides of the dash. Are they really needed? I was planning on fitting a centre console with 2 in it, and as mini fan heater is a bit like a kids fart hardly seem to wonder if i'd need 4.
So is it possible to do away with the vents up the top and possibly replace them with smaller speakers, are there any pro's and con's for doing this. Just thought it would mean not having to fit speaker pods at the front where valuable leg space is required .

Do you mean the vents to the far left and right facing into the cabin? if so then its entirely upto you, these are fresh air vents not part of the heater. I have a full length walnut dash and have put speakers in them. Just make sure you suitably block the holes in the flitch panel as you may get water ingress after you have removed the vents.

yes that exactly what i had planned. I just purchased a walnut dash and thought that the holes be better suited for small speakers rahter than air vents. Can i ask what speakers you managed to get located in there?

The vents help prevent the side windows steaming up, quite a lot!

so if i install vents in the centre console, how are these fed? From the cold air on the side vents or from the heater box ducting?
I was concerned about misting up as we have an open classic with the webasto roof, so the more warm air i can keep in the better! lol

4" Apline jobbies iirc, as above though you will have to have the window open to get fresh air into the cabin.

You'll miss the fresh air vents if you take them out! I do :ermm: and you'll need to seal the holes in the bulkhead well to stop moisture getting at the backs of the speakers.

Any vents in a centre console will only blow air from the heater which is still fresh air either hot or cold but doesn't have the 'blast' or the dash vents...

I have speaker their instead of the vents. As said it does mean that your windows steam up alot more though. I dont have any pics but you can see them in this vid.

Is it ok to remove the part of the vent that goes from the flitch pannel to the dash, but leaving everything else as it should be?
Or will that also cause problems?

Well some water may get it so I wouldn't leave it like that then fit a dash board. Plus you then you wouldn't be able to control how much air get though. That means on really cold days you will freeze to death.

Ideally you'd remove all the plastic and foam from the vent and weld up the hole. That's what I did on fitting my flip front as access was easy and they are a hotspot of rusty rust rust.

I'm now trying to think of a nice easy way to put a vent back in! :D

I found a cure to stop damp and moisture coming into the car on wet days by welding up the ventholes in the bulkhead and re-routed the side vents with some tubes that suck air from around the heather and used some 12V fans like the ones from computers fitted in the tubes. Just needed to fit an extra switch for them. This way you have in-car circulation, with hot air on the side windows. Only minus is when there is something smelly on your shoes (dog :D )

So why doesnt the water get in when the extra 2 inches of vent pipe is on there? It doesnt make sence

Cause their should be some foam stuff their to stop it getting in.
