hi, i am currently making a rwd clubman using mx5 rear hubs and discs, however my new 7x13s wont fit unless i fit 25mm spacers. i have been reading loads of stuff on google about spacers but have not found any facts on them (everyones posting their own opinions). as i am using mx5 hubs i also have the advantage of using 12mm studs (alot bigger than minis). i do have a genuine need for them but am concerned to wether it will pass come mot time!!
also which type should i use? i think plate types and longer studs would be better than the stud extenders

They are legal but people dont advise the because of the extra strain they put on bearings etc

Edit : some one beat me to it

spacers are ok to use to gain clearance, as they are not making your wheels stick out and straining bearings. they only become a problem when people fit very large ones to make their wheels stick out.

the plate type and longer studs are the ones you want to use

Mines got spacers on and it passes the mot.

As long as the wheels isnt sticking out further than the arch it is legal and will pass the MOT. The minute you can see tread on the tyre from looking vertically down on the wheel its illegal.

Use of spacers or the wheel sticking out from under the wheel arch are not part of the MOT, but as correctly stated by Sambarnes, if wheels do stick out past the arches it is against the law, and therefore a police matter.
