She lives!!!

I hate it when people fill their cars with crap wiring.
My last mini had some random 'immobiliser' swith wired in that shorted out the coil to the earth on the fog light switch. Very bizarre!! :ermm:

I best not come look at it as i may start listing the parts I can use. Those master cylinders look very appealing! :-

Hands off James!! :o
I hope they'll be serviceable - or at least I'll be able to refurb them if not.
At the moment, brake pedal goes straight to the floor. Having a look inside the B.M.C. shows about 30% full.
So add to this 7 years of hydroscopic action and we've got no brakes.
Except, the wheels don't turn. Mr rust is a good friction provider!

This is the second mini I've had with an after market alarm fitted.
Both were a total pain in the backside to remove - slowly slowly, carefully unwind the loom... sigh. :D

OK, BIG thanks to Mini-jon. I have some nice comfy metro seats for the car now.
Just need to have a go at fitting them - that can wait until I've got the mechanicals all sorted of course, but nice to have them.
(And nice for Jon to have space in his garage I expect!)

Well, there is a thing. I'm waiting from an email from the Heritage people.
Paid my £5 fee for researching the archives.

Waiting with baited breath - although not expecting much luck of course!
I've been lucky enough to find the car, so it would be just too amazing to find it was a tax free one too...

Tomorrow, I will pop around to the garage and flush the radiator through and refill it up with antifreeze.
Going to fit the seatbelts and look at whether the loom has power for lights etc.
Got some Mk3 rear lights for £5.60!! from Ebay, so need to get them on there soon.

I'm also tempted to fit an HS4 that I have (known good) and manifold to get a bit more O2 action.
As the HS2 that's on there is leaking, this seems like a cheap (free) alternative to buying a new float.
All in the spirit of getting this car on the road for very little money.

So, the identified to do list is growing a bit:

- Clean up and spray any dodgy areas
- Fit carpet (got, had already (free))
- Fit seat belts (got, had already (free))
- Fit seats (got, free)
- Fit rear lights (got, £5.60 on ebay)
- Fit front lights (got, had already (free))
- Fit windows (got, except doors, swapped (free))
- Fit grill (got, had already (free))
- Fit small petrol tank (won on ebay for £17 in postage, in the post)
- Buy 10" tyres and get fitted to alloys (looking for a deal...)
- Fit HS4 carb and manifold (got, had already (free))
- Start looking at suspension and brakes (£££? and some time...???)
- Have a good look at the back end and fix (time, time, time??)

Most of it is really simple stuff.

Did some today. The front panel and wings have had some rubbing back and red oxide.
Need to get some Damask Red rattle cans. Not really bothered about the finish as this adds to my rat look!

- Fit seat belts (got, had already (free))

Took them round there. One side will be easy, the other needs a hole drilled.
Didn't take a drill, so didn't fit them.

- Fit seats (got, free)

Fitted the drivers seat. That's all I intend to fit for now.
It will come out again for carpets of course.

- Fit rear lights (got, £5.60 on ebay)

Did one. The other is missing a bulb holder spring, so I'll pinch one from another set of Mk5 lights I have and then get some at an auto jumble next year.

- Fit front lights (got, had already (free))

Started, but realised I need some better self tappers to grip properly.
And I need some side light bulbs. I thought I had some, but they turned out to be indicator bulbs when I looked.

- Fit HS4 carb and manifold (got, had already (free))

Fixed the HS2 by pinching a screw from another (unknown state) HS2 that I got in a bundle of carbs on ebay.

- Start looking at suspension and brakes (£££? and some time...???)

Up and axle stands, front wheels removed. Tried to get the drums off, but the adjusters are stuck fast.
Added some penetrating oil and we'll try again tomorrow.
One of the front face screws is stuck fast too. Worried about stripping the thread.

- Have a good look at the back end and fix (time, time, time??)

The rear valance closing panels are rotten. :)
That's an MOT fail I expect.

Oh, forgot to mention the really irritating bit.
The engine was running sweet as a nut.
And then it stopped dead.

After much, much poking about, I found that the pigtail inside the dizzy had broken.
I wonder if it was just holding on by a thread anyway or did I do something? :)
It was a right *woman of ill repute* to find!
Anyway, Got a new on on ebay for £4 already tonight.
I've got another dizzy somewhere too, so if the worst comes to the worst I'l swap it out.

Wow you've been busy. How much more work is needed before it goes for its MOT? O yes and how did you fix the seat down in the end?

I'm saving the Metro seats for later. I've just chucked an old mini seat in there for now.
Once it's been MOT'ed and I have a proper plan for it I'll incorporate your seats dude - they're SO comfy.. :)
They will get reupholstered to match the colour scheme I have in mind. Secret for now. :-

It needs loads for MOT actually. But smallish jobs..
Brakes for instance. Pedal goes to the floor but they are all locked on.
