Aaah, little em is looking cool as bits. It'd be entertaining (to me anyway) to have a pic of her with the engine/engine bay all degreased and cleaned up but her body work all dusty - that would be quite a bizarre look!

Hope Dante and Cliffy aren't too jealous of the attention she's getting!

You know, i might just have to kill you :D
I've always loved 70s minis, wanted one for years, but of course cheap ones are either rusty, ringers, or too far away.

I know what you mean. I feel SO lucky to find her. It's fairly solid although I'm sure the clean up will divulge a whole heap of horrors!

Well it doesnt look terrible, i'd still have it even if it was a heap, for that price!

Yep. I recon you will.
All bets are off on me getting it done this week - I'm having to do work away a couple of days this week too. :D
And the kids love to 'help' when daddy has been away. It's a good way to spend time, but not so productive.

well my plan of action for mine is take the front off (and make it removable as its still solid) replace the scuttle and closing panels as there shot, knock up some brace bars, whack on some arches and 10" weller wheels, strip the interior out, new exhaust and brakes, n paint the whole car...all in 3 days!..... easy! (gonna make it abit of a rally look, but do a cheap paint job with exterior gloss lol) it'll be used and abused, so dont care much for the quality of the paint job, might use a good roller though so its at least smooth! will take some pics to, and show u all how im gettin on with it! wish me luck!

She runs!

After a change of ignition coil, HT leads and plugs and the addition of some of that unleaded stuff she's running sweetly.
(Yes, I know she should be on 4 star really...)
Got the coil for free from my ex-mini mad neighbour for nothing. So that's perfectly in fitting with the aims of this budget project!

The HS2 carb is leaking fuel out of the top of the float though.
This is probably due to the half eaten gasket and the lack of one of the three fixing screws!!
As soon as I spotted this, I shut her off.

It's all hot wired at the moment as I still can't get the key to turn in the ignition barrel.
Does anyone know where to get a Mk3 steering column (note!) ignition switch complete with key please?
A minispares search found two, but they're not right. Hmm.

Removed this pile of 1990's wiring from my dashboard and steering column:

I also had a finish of the tidy up.
I removed all the broken glass and dust.
The general dusty crap filled half a bucket...
Inside the car is a much cleaner and tidier environment to work. :D

Excellent!!!

You're 'on-top' ignition lock is particular to the Mk3 (mine is the same) and not available new.

There's a few on eBay though so that might be your best bet... remove the switch from the back of the lock to see what's jamming. My switch never returned as the spring was broken, I couldn't find the right one so had to make one good one out of two.

Failing all that, you could just bung on a complete mk4 column, but then you'd need the late cowing and stalks. If yours is still original it will have the single indicator stalk (annoyingly on the righthand side) and single-speed wipers switch in the dash.

Can you point them out Boycie?
I can't find what I'm looking for on ebay at the moment. :ermm:

I have a Mk5 or Mk6 (1989) column hanging about.
I presume the multiconnectors would cause more of a headache than I need though?!

The column is original then at the moment as it has an indicator and that's it.
Loving the push-button windscreen washer.
I don't have any electrical items to test the rest of the loom at the moment.
But I guess once the brakes are sorted I should start fitting some for the MOT. (ha ha ha - will it pass?!)

Complete mk3 columns turn up on fleabay from time to time, usually about £25-£30 for a complete unit.

Looking good though, told you it wouldn't take much to get started!!
