My wife's car is taking a bit longer to fix than expected (bloody modern aircon thing!!), so I've not been back yet.
Will go back for a proper look see tomorrow.
Thanks for your interest guys!
Mini-jon: are you serious? It might come to that.. I'll even let you lust over her.

Just incase anyone else is doing the "was it built early enough to be tax free?" thing I had a 1973 Thou that was registered on the 4th April 1973. When I checked, the build date was the 7th Jan 1973. So if they were shifting them in the order they built them, anything registered after the end of March is unlikely to be built early enough to be tax free.
That is a good point and with all the industrial unrest and the 3 day week at Longbridge, a Mini wasn't always easy to get hold of and I've heard many a Belgian built Mini was imported to help meet the demand at the time.

"It CAN'T be tax exempt etc."
The wife's car is STILL there. Perhaps I get the mini for free given the amount we're going to spend with them!

Make sure you have a price for the work before you suggest that otherwise they might just factor the extra in to your charge
Yeah - we've got a price. You're as cynical as me! Thanks though..

If he was ever going to do anything with it he already would have.
Keep you £100 for the bits you'll need and offer to make it vanish for him.
If it comes to the crunch have a crumpled twenty in your pocket to close the deal !

Not what we want in the long run, but I might even get it an MOT fairly quickly...
So now all I have to do is get it home. But there is no rush the guys says. It's been there 5 years so far, so a couple of weeks is nothing.
Pictures to follow.
