If you go on to minispares website, they have a thing you can put your vin in so it might give you some idea.
Not too sure havnt done it myself but give it a go.

You may want to edit your post to remove the precise identity of your vehicle!

You'll find the answers here: -

Click Me

Under the '1990 XN-----010001 On (1300cc cars only) – English Built' section.

So you own an

SAX = MG-Rover

XN = Mini 1300

W = HLS, Mayfair

A = 2-door saloon/sedan.

X = 1300 SPi (standard compression ratio, 9.4:1)

Well that links proved very handy,my new logbook came back today and there was an misprint on the vin number.According to the link its a pretty common processing mistake so i will be on the phone tomorrow - why is nothing straight forward.

Link to the page,its in the 59-69 section on the 3rd position list. Click me

HL stands for 'High Line', but I'm not sure what the 'S' stands for. Super perhaps?

There were no build date records kept (or at least passed on) after the 1960's, so you'll have to be content with the date of registration for now.

Although there are lots of date stamps all over the car and on many of it's components, so sometimes that can help you narrow it down a bit.

This article is different. It suggests to look at the wiper motor and the boot latch since they have the year of manufacture stamped on them. That is how I confirmed that my Mini is a 1994 model.

From the "Click Me" link given above:

VIN, Tenth Position (“B” in the above example):

= Model Change

A = 1300 Special Edition
B = 1300

I've a '97 MPi with a "W" in the tenth position. I have found nothing that says what this model change is, and the people at Rover say they don't have that info anymore.

Anyone have some info on the W?

How could it NOT be genuine? It sure looks like a Mini. Please specify.
