Never heard of anyone fitting Spitfire tie rods before - now you really are getting into back street, old skool, make do and mend ways
Of course if he'd asked about track rod ends.......
I can assure you that you have no idea of bmcecosse's make do and mend demon tweaking abilities.

I meant tie rod, which to me, is the ball joint at the end of the steering assembly. I've ordered a 1/2 UNF nut already, will have to see if it fits or not. Maybe I should have waited some

As such the nut you have ordered on Dan's advise will be fine

On that case you meant track rod but confused its name with another part of the car.
As such the nut you have ordered on Dan's advise will be fine

My fault it is then, fortunate turn of events though!

The thread form is definitely UNF so if you have some vernier caliper - measure the OD of the thread.

Do you want the nut on the track rod, that acts as a locking nut against the track rod end (ie where the TRE screws onto the steering rack)?
Or
Do you want the nut that scres onto the end of the TRE where it comes through the hole in the steering arm?
