As per the title, does anyone know what thread the tie rod end on a 1968 Austin Mini is?

Thanks in advance!

If you want longer ones - for fitting negative camber - Triumph Spitfire is the source!

Never heard of anyone fitting Spitfire tie rods before - now you really are getting into back street, old skool, make do and mend ways >_<

Of course if he'd asked about track rod ends.......

Ah, hold on. I thought it did say track rod, do you mean track rod or tie rod? I'm not sure about the thread on a tie rod. Sorry.

I think a tie rod will be 7/16" UNF thread.

I can assure you that you have no idea of bmcecosse's make do and mend demon tweaking abilities.

bmcecosse, are you Roy from mmoc? If so, Hi again!

I meant tie rod, which to me, is the ball joint at the end of the steering assembly. I've ordered a 1/2 UNF nut already, will have to see if it fits or not. Maybe I should have waited some >_<

On that case you meant track rod but confused its name with another part of the car.

As such the nut you have ordered on Dan's advise will be fine >_<

My fault it is then, fortunate turn of events though!

Nope, 1/2" is too big, just slips right over the thread :)

Ar$e.
The thread form is definitely UNF so if you have some vernier caliper - measure the OD of the thread.

Hang on......

Do you want the nut on the track rod, that acts as a locking nut against the track rod end (ie where the TRE screws onto the steering rack)?

Or

Do you want the nut that scres onto the end of the TRE where it comes through the hole in the steering arm?
