I have in my possession a cone spring compressor kit, but it's very old. I doubt it would be compatible with my mini, as mine would require a metric thread, which this tool will certainly not have.
The box has "Sykes Pickavant 859 Mini suspension compressor". The only other marking is on one of the main items and it's "Churchill 18G581".
Has anyone got access to information / old manual / microfiche which would identify the tool, and which minis it would be useful for? Many thanks.

Cone springs first became available with a metric thread in 1973 and all the old imperial threaded stock was gone by 1976 if that helps, people seem to think it was a late modification but it really wasn't. If the tool is any younger than that it should be metric. Can you post a photo?

You appear to have a tool for removing the bearings from the front upper suspension arms and idler gear.

I've attached a picture of all the bits in the box.

That's great Tommy13. I was wondering if I had one or two tools in the same box. There is a cone spring compressor (tube, and long shaft with thread).
Dan, I guess it's very likely that the cone spring compressor will be for imperial, as my dad gave me these, and he was pretty much done with minis toward the end of mid seventies. Most of the minis he had were mark 1s, but it's amazing the great advice he has to give that still helps me out with mine.
My hunch is the bearing extractor will still be useful to me?

Yes - that's the earlier 1/2" UNF thread bar. All you need is a length of M14 threaded bar and nuts - and you can use the tube etc with that to do the job on Metric cones. Unfortunately M14 ia not a 'preferred' size - but your local tool store should have or be able to get it for you for minimal cost. Get half a dozen matching nuts too!
