Hint for fitting tyres to expesive wheels...have the tyres fitted from the inside[back] face, not the usual way.[place "upside down" in the tyre fitting machine]

Just ensure any Directional tyre is mounted in correct rotation direction.

Saves a lot of unsightly damage to the polished face.

Seeing as they are splits, just assemble them to the tyre?

Had it fired up yet ? Mine still struggles to fire up on occasions unless the battery is in tip top condition and holding a full charge... It whips over fine, but just not quite quick enough to make it fire ...... Very frustrating at times ......

Each time I go back home I give the battery a charge especially if I go round to try and start it. Turns over strongly and I've made sure fuel is getting to the rail but doesn't fire. Got some new spark plugs so I need to check if there's a spark there. Not been home much recently so progress has been slow.
Pick up on it again in the new year when I can get stuck in to cutting the front arches for wheel clearance on the front end.
Got some more photos to upload at the weekend and might get chance to try the engine again

Made myself a boot board as those on offer tend to be made from mdf and i didnt want the excess weight. So i cut a simple one from thick polystyrene - weighs nearly nothing and still quite strong. Mine's in two parts - one side for battery access the other for the spare wheel

Spent the day laying on my back underneath the mini - first to add some additional rust protection to the exhaust tunnel and secondly to fit the heat shield. Even up on axle stands there's little space for movement so it was a bit of an effort. Should have been one of the first things i did with the bodyshell not the last.

The heat shield stuff I got from a place called The Online Parts Shop. Just round the corner from Mini Spares in Potters Bar.
It's not cheap mind for what it is but it came in the length I wanted.

I bought two of these and had a little bit left over. Covered the length of the tunnel

Time is my enemy in getting it finished. Car is at my parents in Andover but I live up in north London so I don't get much chance to work on it anymore.
It will be 5 years in February since I started this project so I think this year it needs to be finished.

Well I have a full week working on the mini now. Should be snowboarding in France right now but this countrys inability to cope with weather and an airport (heathrow and a woefully inept BA) that already operates at breaking point on a good day put paid to my holiday.

On the upside I should be able to report some good progress this week.
