Been getting the mini ready for castle Coombe in a few weeks. Had a couple of issues - gear selector needed adjusting but that was pretty simple and it's spot on again now.
Done away with the spring for the chain tension. Kept going slack and no matter which way I adjust the positions of the sprocket and tensioner it just wouldn't work right. So it's in a fixed position now with just the right amount of slack.
No awful chain slip and it's back to being a handful now that I can floor the throttle once more.

Good news the car is going to be ready for Combe! Are you booking some track time?

What size sprockets are you using front & rear?

It has taken a while for me to get my chain working reliably. I drilled & tapped a hole on the tension arm further away from the pivot & also used a longer, higher tensioned spring which obviously now pushes harder down onto the chain. This is working great and has been fine on hard track use.

I would just be aware that if the chain gets hot at all it may stretch a little and without a tensioner this might give you a little slack.

Yeh I think for mean time it will do the job. Not getting a lot of use anyway. Ten inch wheels so it's the sprockets that came designed for that setup.

Good idea with a repositioned hole. I just found that no matter what combination I tried it wasn't quite right. Sprocket high up you can't get any tension on the spring but if you have it positioned lower then you can't even get the spring on.
I'd like to have it as intended with the spring so might look at it again in th future but for now i will see how I get on as it is

Sounds good hope it works & it ready for some action at Combe

FYI if you count the number teeth on the front and rear sprocket this will tell you what ratio you have. Its really easy to change the gearing as you can just buy a sprocket bigger or smaller for either the front or rear.

If you want to and have the time let me know what sprocket sizes you have front and rear and and I will be able to plot you a chart of all gear speeds & can tell you what effect a sprocket change will have on your gearing. I presume you are probably running a 3.1CWP on your diff, but if you get a GPS speed @ a specific engine rev in 6th I can check for you. To give you an idea this is the gearing I am running in mine;

Gives me a speed of 120mph @11,300rpm in 6th.... and it gets there too  ;D

Cheers for the offer to do that. Have a look at the sprockets when I'm back next which is the day before coombe. Not sure about track time as its not done enough road miles yet and I keep finding loose nuts and bolts after each outing!

Its coming off the road again after that as the leaky diff needs removing once more for the third or fourth time. Freshen up the front suspension and steering at the same time I think.

Maybe see you at castle coombe then

Got to see the article for the mini yesterday via email. It was a nice surprise and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Fair play to Simon Cooke for doing a top job of taking the photos and doing the write up.
Cant wait to see it in the mag in a couple of weeks

made it to Castle Coombe and back. 100 miles in total so a good run for it and no issues.

It's fine for little blasts about but not suited to longer journeys. Although I have just bought some better ear plugs.
Draws a lot of attention from passers by

I have some sound proofing. But not the good stuff like dynamat. Think it will be worth the investment now just to take the edge off the noise
