I cannot stand corroded nuts and bolts and I have two handfuls of them which need replacing where possible

They were not impressed by the lack of reverse either.
Oh and the mot guy was too fat to fit in it anyway!

It's mighty savage! It sings nicely too through the revs and the sound became addictive.

Finally making some progress now. Barnett clutch is fitted.

And engine loosely bolted into frame - thanks for the help Baz500. Didnt look like it was going to line up to begin with but it did and its spot on. You do get what you pay for - 8 engine mounts and they all line up. very happy so far, its a really well engineered kit
well done that man, barnett is a very good move, yes I ran a standard clutch, and so confident was I that I sold my original barnett rig to Basky as I thought I didn't need it - how wrong was I ??
Keep us posted on progress !
as the r1 engine has only 3000km on it I will leave the original clutch in too till it is burned, first want to get the mini running and get some experience. After that I for sure will take the engine out and modify some parts which will also be the right time to fit the barnett clutch.

Barnett clutch isn't expensive so I would just put one straight in and be done. Cant tell you how much of a pain it is to have to remove the engine once everything is assembled just to access the clutch.
Thank you for the tip.
I have decided to use the lynx kit so removing engine will be fast. As I will regularly swap from R1 to A-Series (due to in german BCT only A-Series are allowed) and back I will optimize engine bay set up to support this swapping . want to have the mini running with r1 at lowest cost possible and start getting experience with it as it is also my first classic mini. It is pure race tool, so the standard clutch with 5000km on it should make it for some time. Buying a house a the moment, so a bit tight on budget for the mini at the moment.
Also I have three 5pw engines (5000km/8500km/29000km) lying around (got the whole lot cheap from a R1 bike racer who crashed his bike and won't race any more due to wife and kids), so I can easily prepare one with a barnet clutch and swap this in next time.
