Could be that the mpi fuel pump doesn't reach down as far as 2 1/2 litres. That's all that was left when I drained it out. Put 10 litres of fresh fuel and it started up. Been running again today so alls good on that front.

What a disaster of a weekend, I can't operate the clutch - even when disconnected from pushrod and pulling the lever by hand it doesn't work. The really annoying thing is that despite my best efforts it's impossible to remove the clutch cover with the pro-motive kit.
So I've started stripping bits off it. Nuts, bolts and washers everywhere. Yanked the subframe out and still can't raise the engine enough to gain clearance because the manifold is too tight against the subframe so that will be coming off too.

Anyone want a project car that was almost finished but is now nowhere near finished - I'm almost tempted to give it away I'm so fed up with it

Have you tried taking clutch arm off and turning it by hand until it stops then put the arm back on there is a bit of free play on them before anything starts moving.

as from memory the clutch cover couldn't go back on with out the shaft sitting in correctly?

Josh

Yeh I tried all that. The lever doesn't need to move that much to operate the clutch.
However the barnett clutch plates need soaking in oil overnight and I don't remember if I did that or not. It came with precious little instructions and it was over 4 years ago since I installed it.

Going home this weekend so getting a few things prepared. New oil, brake and clutch fluid, manifold gaskets, clutch cover gasket and a couple of circlips that hold the clutch lever arm on the spline. The last one pinged off into oblivion when I removed it.
Going to get the clutch out and give it a check over, soak the plates overnight and then reassemble it. Engine back in, subframe bolted back on and reconnect everything. Hopefully a weekends work if all goes to plan...

Well, the clutch plates had all stuck together so removed them and soaked them oil overnight. Took forever trying to get all the engine/frame bolts to line back up again.
Still need to bolt subframe back to the shell which won't be till Easter now but I think afterwards im going to get it transported to my garage up here in london

Well it's all back in one piece before the clutch nightmare. But I don't see any change. The clutch pedal is as soft as sponge, the slave sits at an awkward angle so the pushrod movement is impeded, it doesn't retract on its own either and the addition of a second spring means that although it's strong enough to return the pushrod it stops it from attaining full travel in the first place.

I've been over it so many times now that I just can't figure out how the system works. The clutch return arm doesn't move the barnett pressure plate and even if it could there would be no room because the plate practically touches the clutch cover anyway.

Any help guys....?

it hardly moves the plate only slightly my pedal is really soft. I have also had to add another return spring due the Yamaha no being man enough..

Don't suppose you can remove the oil filler cap and have a look inside and see how close the pressure plate is from the casing. Mine is near touching the casing - like I can just push a cable tie between them.
I'm guessing the plate doesn't have enough room to disengage.
Strangely the pedal still pushes to the floor although the push rod only moves a few mm

been a few weeks but back home to see what i can get done.

clutch is sorted - in my haste to reassemble it all last time i didnt interlock the pressure plate properly. so a bit of costly mistake time wise.

anyway spent most of the day bolting the engine back in with some difficulty getting all aligned but did it in the end

waiting for a couple of items to arrive but plan for tomorrow is to have everything back to how it should be so i can run the engine again, test brakes and clutch and then by the end of the week to drive it out from the garage for the first time in 6 years
