I changed the front subframe mounted linkage with the aid of a welder and angle grinder, bought a new throttle cable and re-routed it slightly, and now I have a much easier throttle action as well.

So, it's all ready for it's trip down to PDQ tomorrow afternoon. I just hope they can get to the bottom of the fuelling issue......
Has anyone who runs a carb fed R1 engine done anything about the error code that affects the ECU when you remove the EXUP motor? Check this link out.....
Tech22
I'm trying to find out how the fault code manifests itself in terms of engine performance, and how the Tech22 unit helps.

I have had the error code since i got mine, i have tried plugging in the exup motor, bought a fooling device from vtac, resistors, etc etc but nothing works. However, it is not effecting engine performance whatsoever. The only problem is i cannot use the ecu tacho output so i have connected to the coils instead.

Dale, I spoke to the guys at PDQ yesterday and they say the error code doesn't affect performance in the slightest (as you say) so that's good enough for me

Could be Wednesday next week before the car goes on the rollers.

Dale, where did you get your car set-up? Do you know what jets it's running?

The other carbed R1 engine i bought was dyno'd at 150bhp at the wheels but that has had a lot of modding done.

Incidentaly, my brother fitted an air box to his KAD engined mini to try and cut the noise down recently, took it to the rollers and not only was it costing massive power it was messing the mixture up massively and was binned in the end. I wonder if your enclosed filter set up is causing you more harm than good there? Hope you get it sorted though.

The engine now churns out 127.5 bhp at the rear wheels, which makes it about 153 at the crank (+10 then divide by 0.9). Figures are ok but the best thing is that Nick at PDQ has managed to more or less smooth the power curve out at the bottom end as well. There's a flat spot between 4,500 to 5,250, but then it climbs sweetly all the way to 11,000 plus.
I took the car for a quick spin just before loading it back onto the trailer, and F*@&ING HELL!!!!! this things fast, and by any normal standards too. The fact that it goes like that, and it's a mini just seems to amplify the effect

For anyone who's building one of these, or is contemplating it - it's worth the hassle, believe me!
I didn't really explore the handling- just kinda pointed where I wanted to go, nailed the throttle, and kept grabbing more gears until sensibilities and fear took over and I backed off. It's been too long since I got out of a car with shaking hands. Another good reason for calling it the Buzz-wagon. I need another fix......

I'll let you know what the volumn of mine is as soon as i'm back from the track. Fingers crossed.
Have you got any idea of the weight of yours yet? Just curious from an average point if view. The only one I've been able to compare with so far is Dales and well he's just obsessed lol
