DD..looking and sounding great...well done..I had the same problem the first few times trying to get away from a standstill on an uphill slope I must have stalled the engine more times than I ever could have believed... now it's no problem.
The main trouble I have is to keep it in a straight line on bumpy roads (I have a quick rack !!) when coming on cam !!

D.D., How does one view your video?? all I get is photo bucket enroll...RichMk1

It should appear automatically, then you click the "play video" tab in the centre of the screen. I think some people have had problems if they havn't got the latest version of media player installed. The first couple of times I clicked on the link to check it, I just got a blank screen, but clicking refresh did the trick. Sorry I can't be of further help.

Looks good DD. Hope you get the engine sorted and take it down the strip. Will be good to see a few more bike engined cars running.
Look forward to seeing it in the flesh Sunday.

DD or Markrally, have either of you put any inner rear arches on to stop C**p spraying up inside????

Pete

I have them here to fit as i want to use it on the road so i ordered a set off chris, just need to make som alloy L brackets to fasten them to the inner arch on the wheelarch bolt fixings.

Congratulations Mark! What are you doing on here- shouldn't you be wetting the babies head?!

Pete, I'm not expecting great things if I go down the strip as it will only be my second drive of the car! Besides it hasn't been built for the all out pursuit of ultimate acceleration and speed as I'm conscious of the fact that it's probably one of the heaviest Z-cars ever built!!! Still, it should be funny to watch as I take 2 or 3 attempts to set off :-

Thanks Mark, didn't know Chris did them. Looks like something else to add to the list.

I'm p*ssed off! I won't be running my mini tomorrow at Stratford after all. :'(

After 3 hours down at TTS on the rolling road yesterday I left with exactly the same problem I went there with! It appears my float bowls are emptying at 6,500 rpm, so the engine runs lean, and can't rev out.

Having got back home I ran a few checks and there were no blockages anywhere in the fuel system. I then pulled the fuel hose off of the carbs, stuck it in a bottle and turned the fuel pump on. Even with the pressure regulator set at 1.5 psi (we tried it up to 3 psi on the dyno- to no avail) the bottle filled at a very healthy rate - roughly a litre in 40 sec's so I refuse to believe the problem is with fuel supply (to the carbs at least) .

I'm only getting about 85% of full throttle as well, so I need to make some mod's to the throttle cable actuation lever. This alone meant it would have been pointless re-jetting my carbs, but I feel a little dissapointed by the level of service down at TTS. Don't get me wrong, Chris is undoubtably extremely knowledgeable, but I got the impression he was stringing the time out to some extent, and was reluctant to investigate any problems within the carbs themselves. It's much easier after-all to re-map fuel injection fuelling at a keyboard, than it is to start swapping jets and needles in carbs.

Having phoned TTS back to let them know there were no crud or blockages in the fuel lines and to ask "What next?" I was met by a "Don't know, but bring it back down to us and we'll sort it out" which sounds to me like an expensive job!

Oh well, it'll be at Stratford tomorrow anyway, but just not going down the strip.......

have you checked the float levels? mayeb the engine is sitting in a slightly different position than it would do in the bike? and the floats need adjusting to allow more petrol in before closing off? there is usually a little metal tab that you have to bend to adjust the float levels its a fiddly job but not hard as such...

Lilly, that's the second thing I checked when I got back home. Every bowl (so at least it's consistent) was approximately 8mm too high. The level should be 4.1 to 5.1mm below the mark on the float chamber, but I was seeing it about 3mm above the mark. I think you're correct though about a slight difference in orientation of the engine in this application, (and fuel levels are normally a set and forget thing), so I put it down to the angle at which the engine is mounted.

It's telling though that both you and I thought to check this, and yet TTS didn't bother!

i agree with both above youre obviously trying to get it all done properly and they seem to just want you to leave it with them with the cheque book and "well sort it all for you sir dont worry" kinda thing meaning plenty of money for not a lot, theres many good noligeable places out there its a shame that there seems a lack of effort /willingness with some of the places

im would so love to be at stratford tommorrow if not just to see your mini its still my desktop and looks better each time i start the pc up :) pity shows not at stafford as id defo be there

Saw it in the flesh today and it looks even better than in the pics. Shame it wasn't running properly as it would've been good to see it race against Ade's.

Yes, it looked fantastic. Seems a bit of a shame to thrash the nuts off it but I guess its got to be done.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. It's nuts are gonna get well and truly thrashed, there's no worries there!

I'm going to set about changing the leverage properties of the throttle cable lever next, so that I can get full throttle, and so that when it goes back to TTS (if it goes back) it's one less reason for them not to do anything...

Dale, those MB wheels were just about the nicest things I've seen, and they have the added benefit of being lighter than air! Good job they were bolted to your car. Don't reckon your bulkhead idea's gonna catch on though! :)

A big mention to all the miniforum members who obviously put a lot of time and energy into the stand/ swimming pool/ BBQ etc. TOP JOB! I still don't know how that BBQ went in a Megane.
