do some research on radiator brackets, (thermostat to radiator) they are both differrent, if you look at pics of them on the sites that sell them, then compare to yours...

i am just finishing putting my clubman back together (full rebuild) and i have put a 1275 in it and the engine was ment to have a stage 1 head and the hif44 carb on it. most of the parts came off a k reg mini rio and the radiator bracket i had to buy for that was the ones they fit to the spi minis so not sure why it got that one on when it's a carb model?
i am only asking about the 1275 becaues i have a clubman 1275gt and i need a engine for that.

1275s have two core plugs under the engine steady bar. The thermostat housing outlet points directly to the front of the car whereas on a 998 it points about 30 degrees toward the radiator. A+ 1275s are red, A+ 998s are yellow.

i have a 998 engine in my trike but have bought a 1275 auto to replace it. the thermostat housing on the 1275 projects further from the head than 998 (1000)

+ 998s have tappet chest covers on the back, 1275s don't. That's the most obvious way to tell...

Maybe it is but it doesn't apply to all 1275s.

Neither does the core plug idenfication method :D 'S' engines got only one core plug there too...
And to my knowledge there's no 'intermediate' block.
