It has been done with an 1800 (external dimensions same as 1600) engine, but you have to use the 1800 gearbox as well, because of it's size you need to widen the front subrame, it's really more trouble than it's worth, & the one I have knowledge of had such an amount of torque steer it pulled itself off the road & up a tree shortly after being built. If you're up for that amount of modification, a Honda or similar conversion will yield much better results. In fact a good, well modified 1400 'S' will be much more powerful than the 1600 B series (unless you have some secret B series tuning tricks up your sleeve).

Agreed. It won't fit on a mini gearbox (well it might be able to be made to, but it'd be a massive fabrication job).
Also, the B-series is not a particually good engine as mentioned above, so a wast of time and money really. If you want a decent engine from the BL/Rover/..... family, then the K-series is a well trodden route with great results.

The B-Series was not particularly good? I cut my teeth working on early MGB engines. I have a lot of respect for them in their inline version. I have no experience with the sideways engines as used on the Land Crab. However, those I know who have owned one say the cars were highly under-rated and a pleasure to drive.

That's not to say I disagree with any of the other observations above. Anything is possible with money and time. However, there are much better transplants if you don't want to keep the A-series.

It's all relative really, if you want a torquy motor for easy driving across continebts, the the B-series will be fine, but power per cc will never be as good as other engines, no matter what you spend.
