
What Idler Gear Do I Have?

I thought the idler gear was reversible ie. you can put itin either way as its identical both sides. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Yeah, I thought that too, but I keep coming across posts that describe it as one side longer than the other, and to put the longer side in the gearbox and short side in the flywheel housing. Just confused really, and I don't want to put the wrong gear in if it'll do damage.

A+ are 22.3 dia shaft and have equal length shafts either side of the gear

If your idler gear shaft is .750" diameter, it is A series, as .750" is 19mm. Early A series idler gears had the same length shaft both sides, until (I think) about 1966.Early Idler gears ar 19mm dia shaft (A series) longer side goes in the gearbox...
