You need to get the powder off any aluminum parts or it will corrode it like anything

Blimy mate, you were lucky that fire wasn't more serious.
Make DOUBLY sure you rectify everything and that this can't happen again, I would hate for this to happen when you are driving along!

I've now ordered another carb and will reroute the fuel lines, also getting one of those valves that stops the flow of fuel of it moves from horizontal, this ill fit by the carb so if the carbs come off again the fuel will cut off.
My wiring etc is all wrapped in fireproof braiding along with the fuel lines so I can't think of any more ways to prevent this accident. Theoretically it won't happen again as it was just a freak run of accidents but I'll do all I can to prevent it. A new fire extinguisher has been bought tho!
Brakes have been bled now which is nice, got an easy bleed kit which is so much easier then those cheap one way valves!
So just waiting on the new carb for the parts a need and I'm set :)
Thanks for the comments tho guys

Agreed the dials look great.
I noticed you have used the ezebleed kit. I too have just got one and was wondering how you found it ?? I have a completely dry system at present and am wondering if you had any problems with the master cylinder being two pistons ??

So people I've been doing bits and bobs. Mostly wiring
Sorted out all the front lighting :)
Automatic lights now come on at dusk too
Little video of her running, she's a bit lean ATM, I called boggbros who are experts on bike engined carbs so have yet to drill out the carb main jets, she should be fuelling nicely after they are drilled out
http://i1111.photobu...0911_144821.mp4
Trialing my mk3 air filter design
Overall look
The red you can see ontop of the carbs is a k&n filter that I cut up and flattened, possibly not the most ideal but should filter some air and looks pretty awesome
And a photo of how she is now :)
And my last note is that I got a quote to insure her this evening :) £318 from flux direct!
So to conclude once the carb jets are drilled she will be ready for the road Barr a few small bits that I can do when she's working. The need for rushing the last part is that I need to move house in 9days! So if she's not on the road it'll mean trailering her 15miles!
Anyhow feel free to comment

Mini update from yesterday
I've finally drilled the main jets in my carbs out, she's idling lovely now :)
On other great news I've found a post on a micra website that puts information about engine timing etc so it could give me a more accurate ignition map! So that could be useful and save me some time :)
I've also adjusted the clutch to lower the bite point to a more useable height
Took her for a tiny road test just round the close I live in, everything's working as it should apart from some rub from the clutch cable so a dash out job for that which is annoying however brakes are awesome, got 4 wheel lock from 20 by mistake, the non servo system will take some getting used to I think, especially coming from a newer servo assisted car
Additionally I've got a quote to trailer her home for £60 which won't break the bank too much!
Proof she moves :)
Need to fix the hole in the bonnet now tho :/ as it just let's rain in now
Hopefully taxing and insuring her next month, plan is a shake down to make sure everything works as it should, got some minor oil leaks etc to sort out still.
Hope you guys like this minor update, it's just finishing touches that aren't that interesting to be honest!

My helper

Working
Ready for some engine work to fix the oil leak
Refrence pics for me
Found the source of the problem!
Feeler gauge showing gap in gasket
For the time being I've plugged the hole with some instant silicone gasket, thought I'd give it a try as I've got nothing to loose :)
There will be another update soon once I've uploaded my photos

Finished off the gear stick gaitor
Fitted a new window rail
Door card needed a redo
All sorted, wind deflectors refitted too
Ride height all equalised after leaving her sitting for a month or so. Given her 2 1/2 fingers of space (technical measurement!,)
Battery decided to die on me so took it back under warranty! Winner winner!
Did a bit of repainting in the engine bay too
That's half the upload, I'll do the rest in a bit
Hope you all like this update

She was blowing around the silencer welds and it was breaking up along the folded seam
So I did what any man with a welder would do
Woo straight though!
New mats for saxo
New gear knob
Now before anyone says stop spending money on the French car if I do the little things to her now she'll be worth more! So more money for mini then!
Back to mini
Need to weld a small hole in the petrol tank
No photo of it welded unfortunately. I shall be buying a square race tank when funds allow
And with the oily bits. Gasket repair didn't work
So off with its head!!! Haha
Wayyyy past just sealing there!
New gasket!
Didn't take a picture of it one built up for some reason, but it's back together
Oil topped up too
New bluetooth head unit fitted
The sound quality is really good now I've got some speaker in the dash
New temp gauge and ebay special fuel pump
Learning new skills today
Soldering brass to copper
The brass bung is for the temp gauge
Where it goes
Drilled and ready for flux and solder
And sorted
Looks almost factory!
Very happy with that
So that's my updates from today!
Great news is that the engine keeps at a steady temp of just over 80 deg c at idle which is bang on what the Haynes says!
Turning on the aux fan rapidly lowers it to 50 so I think she's going to be fine on the cooling side of things!
I shall be posting a video in the technical problems tommorow tho as I have a problem
Feel free to comment, they are always appreciated
