Hi all I know this is a 1 series forum however I’ve got exactly the same problem on a Mini Copper convertible, which I bought from Halliwell Jones, Warrington 18 months ago. The car was second hand is on a 56 plate and has done 27k, the car had 1 owner before me and is absolute mint condition, having had all its services done etc.
Anyway my story is as follows, on Wednesday we had the roof down as it was a nice day, we parked it up at the house at 7pm and went back out about an hour later to put the roof up. Anyway the roof would not move it was dead and I noticed a few lights displaying on the dash such as the information light and the temperature gauge being on full constantly, any we didn't know what to do so contacted BMW emergency service who told me that my warranty had expired some 7 days earlier and therefore they could not come out.
So stressed to death, we decide to put the car in the garage overnight and would look at it first thing. I was thinking maybe a relay or a fuse had gone at this point.
So next morning me and the missus get up and find the car still in the same situation as before, we then managed to put the roof up halfway manually but couldn’t close it further. I thought this would be ok and I will take the car direct to BMW.
The car drove phone however it was only then I noticed the following, the hand break light staying on, the DSC button on, the ran flat tyre light on, ABS light on, no speedometer, no rev counter and a few other lights.
So I decided to take it to BMW at Halliwell Jones as that was were I purchased the car and it was the closest place. The man from the service desk said it would take a few hours as it would need to go on the diagnostic machine, so I had to get a taxi into work. Later on that afternoon he called me again to see if I would authorise further time on the machine at a cost of £130ph, I said yes as I just wanted the problem sorted, by now the bill was running at £260.
After having the car for a few hours they phoned me up and said the cars dynamic stability control unit had failed and needed replacing, this would cost £1100 and I was responsible for the payment as the warranty had expired several days prior. They did say they would submit a good will claim but BMW may not accept it.
Am absolutely disgusted by this and am pleased to see other BMW users have the same problem and have had the problem sorted. I hope to God they do the same with me. It appears to be some very bad software made for this car.
In the past 10 years myself and my family have bought over 170k's + worth of BMW's from the same dealer, if this problem is not sorted its bye bye BMW forever as far as am concerned.
Has anyone got any tips or ideas for me?

I know what your problem is, you bought the wrong Cooper. You should have bought a classic one

I guarantee this would not have happened if it were a classic mini.
