Fuel tank looks fab on the outside. Do Mini tanks have a reputation for rotting on the inside and did you have to treat yours? I wouldn't want to refit mine only to replace or refurb it a few years later.
I ask because my TR7V8 needed a new tank at 27 years after rusting from the inside out. (They usually rot out around 25 - 30 years)
Cheers,
Adam

Scott was not too happy about the paint on the roof gutter as he did not want to see any gunmetal grey on it so back to masking up and sanding AGAIN!!!
So after frying myself outside this morning masking the car up i threw some paint on the gutter and was pleased with the outcome. Was a little bit peeved that i could not find my masking paper but blue roll did a good enough job
Pleased with the result, just got to do a bit of flatting on the front to get rid of a couple of defects otherwise all is good.

Anyway the door fits and even with the new paint the gaps have not shrunk which what was worrying me
Gaps are good
and some stainless steel bling
and also today Erm's new stage 4 head turned up courtesy of Smart Performance
somewhat opened inlet ports
and exhaust ports, pictures are not the clearest but it the difference shown by the vernier caliper
and i believe these are phosphor bronze valve guides.
thought i had taken a picture of the valves but missed that however the exhaust are 2mm bigger and the combustion chambers have been balanced and reshaped and polished. Then the head has been refaced.
All that remains to be done is a tad more painting then a new rocker set etc and the all important camshaft before the engine can be built.
This is on hold at the moment as Scott is waiting to see whether he has got the Virgin Apprenticeship, two weeks to go.

The only downer to this though is Project Erm is now on the back burner for some time as the money he was going to spend on him now has to be used for buying a Vw Polo 1.2.
I know people are going to say use a mini but its a round trip of 272 miles (he's not doing it every day) from our place plus he cannot get his racing bike in a mini so he will still be playing with Mini's but until we move a lot closer then it reliability and comfort plus space. Looks like i will be doing some more work on Paddy until Scott's finances settle down.

Happy with that so as a temporary measure we have dropped the block onto the gearbox with lashings of grease and oil to protect everything until i can start the rebuild. Just need the SW5 cam kit and some new pushrods.
In the mean time i stripped the steering column down to the bare bones for a overhaul and paint.
So everything came off as it will all be replaced, the rust was removed from the pinch end and then given a good lashing of black paint along with the tube.
Then it was fitted to the car with the extended drop and it does look the mutts nuts
Now i'm just painting up the the replacement windscreen wiper motor, linkage and boxes

Cheers for the comment but due to Scott starting his apprenticeship next month money is uber tight as is non existent so i will do what i can to keep things ticking over for the time being.
