Neil and Scott - it just looks brand new. A really nice job. Just wish I was at this stage. When I do reach it, it will be nothing like the quality shell you have done.

Cheers folks its been a long time coming but the only thing now left to do is sort the roof guttering then that's the paint finished.

The only fly in the ointment is how well the doors and boot lid have come up after the paint shop had to redo them. I will be going back there tomorrow to check them out so fingers crossed.

If all goes well the rear subbie will go on next week after some checking of the rear mounts, there is a small discrepancy with the way Scott has put them together so after last years trial fit the l/h mount does not fit where it should but its not by much.

Then it will be the front one to fit so hopefully there will no problems waiting for us

Still we are looking forward to Himley on Sunday to spend some more of Scotts hard earned wonga.

Hopefully my ondrive paint booth will give me half as good a job. What was the subby mount problem, don't remember that one?

Enjoy Himley, post some pics for us!!

We offered the subframe up Graham then i pilot drilled the rear mount bolt holes and the l/h side is out by 10mm or so but the r/h side is pretty much spot on so i'm thinking the poly bushes are not fitted correctly. Not a big deal everything else fits where it should so it WILL behave itself. Big hammer time i feel.

Went to check on the doors and boot lid today and rejected them once again. Very minor bits but we want it right so we wont see them back until the end of next week.

Paddy got some welding today on his flitch panel so the bottom section is done just needs grinding flush then i will sort the top section out tomorrow. But before that i've got to go and look at my potential new car as my other is starting to get a little leggy.

Neil, quick question again! Did you strip ALL of the original paint to bare metal before painting or did you just flat it? What about the interior? I realise bare metal is best, but it must be massive faff in all the nooks and crannies!

Hi Rich all of it back to bare metal then etch coat. Yes it was a faf but Ray the bodyshop chap had an MBX which is an awesome piece of kit which gets virtually everywhere. I also used two different power files as well but some areas i had to use good old fashioned hand sanding with different grades of wet and dry.

The interior parts that show were stripped to bare metal as well but considering that most of the interior was replaced anyway then there was not an awful lot of original paint left.

Any of the original paint did not react with the new paint which was a Brucie bonus so i can only surmise that the Halfords top coat rattle paint did not like the 2K Acrylic paint.

Righto. Cheers! Yes, a lot of the metal in my car will be getting replaced too so I won't have to worry about the paint on that. I have just stripped the`inside of the dash area and I think I'll need some more tools to make my life easier if i'm going to strip much more!
