Project Erm

Erm is looking a little bit red.
But first we had to deal with the reaction on the stone chip from yesterday so several new coats later all was well or was it??
The car got three dose's of cleaning, i spirit wiped the whole car down, gave it a dry wipe over then another spirit wiping session and he ended up looking like this
Then i had to wait awhile until the sprayer turned up so in the mean while i helped the bodyshop chap Ray de rust a fairly new Merc and boy was it rusty, new front wings, all four door bottoms, both rear arches, rear bumper mounts and the sills on both sides. The car is very well looked after but i cannot believe how the rust has taken a hold on a car that is not even 10 years old.
Anyway Rod the painter (garage owner) turned up and cracked on with the paint a bit like this
And this is how he looks after two coats
I will flat this off monday and deal with the paint reaction on the front valance stone chip and then he will get at least another two or three coats as we can still see the primer in a few places. The paint is quite translucent so will need quite a few coats to make sure we cannot see any primer patches.
Its a big moment and so far very very pleased it just remains to be seen if we have any other issues with reaction.

lookin good mate but if he had uesd a white under coat frist you wood not have to spray the car again if he has been spraying as long as me he wood have know this sorry to tell you this now mate , but is lookin nice thow
To be honest i was a bit bemused with all of the different primers but i think even Rod was caught out by how translucent the red was but at least Erm will get plenty of paint on him so i won't have to worry about polishing through thin paint. I will be making sure i cannot see any of the primer through the paint before i'm happy.

well to be honnest red's are a s*^t to spray at the best of times , but lookin forword to seeing it finished how long before it's on the road again you think ?
I would love to say by the summer but to be honest i think it will not be this year as we have a possible house move to contend with plus if and when Scott gets accepted into the Royal Marines. We will do our best but there is no point in rushing plus i also need to finish doing the welding on Paddy to keep him road worthy.

Mini's looking great. Nice looking finish from the photos. I like this bit as you get to bolt on all the shiny bits next..!
Mmmm shiny bits that's going to be the icing on the cake. First thing though got to do is move the cars around in the garage again and when he's back home we really have to make sure no cats get in and scratch the paint.

Well some one got to say it you ******* wish i had one just like that lol fair play mate cant wait till i can show of pics of mine lol job well done
Ta but we can't hear the fat lady singing yet, i think monday will be a make or break day for the paint as it will have had nearly 3 1/2 days for any reaction to rear its ugly head. Just got to work on the painter to spray the inside of the car now as the budget is already maxed out. It's ready to paint but Rod does not reckon we will have enough hours left in our budget which has now doubled due to the previous issues with reaction.
It will be nice to see everybody else's projects done and painted.
