OH S**T! That's seriously bad news. But in terms of how far you have brought this car from its humble beginnings, its just a small (albeit costly) set-back. Thanks for the heads up though. I had started spraying on frauds top coat for protection, so I might rethink that strategy now!

PS. Very sexy subframe!

Can i ask where you bought that tow eye? And was it a direct bolt on? or did you have to modify it?

Scott bought it from DSN Classics and its a direct bolt on, no need to modify anything.

Neil, a quick question! When you put a new panel on, do you strip the e-coat off before painting it, or do you just prime over the top of it?

Depends on the E coat. If its a Heritage panel that should be ok as their E coat seems to be very well applied. Magnum E coat is rubbish and i completely stripped it off. The exterior side of the panels we stripped back completely after the paint reaction we had although it was not the Heritage E coat at fault there.

My rule of thumb is:- Black shiny E coat should be fine. Grey matt looking E coat strip it off, it's pants.

Hope this helps.

Neil

Anyone reading this even if its Heritage i would recommend you remove the Ecoat. It has a habit of hiding spider tracks of rust. A lesson learnt.

No no more updates at the moment as the car is still in paint. Its a busy workshop and as we are cutting a bit of a deal we are not top of the pile but hopefully we should hear back from them next week.

As to the welding well i'm starting work on Paddy so just waiting for panels to turn up so i can start sorting him out in slow time as he is still road legal.
