Ahh but having rhino skin helps to keep the cold away and buckets of tea also helps. I can't afford to stop now as we really need to get the car painted and start the rebuild. (also stops me from being nagged by the wife, i'm fed up with my ears bleeding all the time :))

Stone chip i hate stone chip. I have learnt the hard way that its fickle stuff and that certain brands do not like primer, however we have overcome this glitch with the mighty U-POL GRAVITEX. We like this product a lot however we do not like Tetrosyl Stone Chip as it reacts big time with the primer we have sprayed on Erm.
So far so good after Scott and myself scraped off the Tetrosyl and flashed over the first few coats.

Before we finish off it needs several more coats then we will move onto the front inner wings and outer wings. Before this happens i need to weld in the bonnet support stay bracket and the water bottle bracket.

Are you using PRC as seam sealer? If so which grade?

Loving the attention to detail. I hope to restore mine to that standard, one day

We certainly do, i'm currently using PR1436B1/2 SEMKIT, past its shelf life for a/c but more than good enough for the car. I will be using A1/2 for inside on the floor pans where they have been welded in as its brushable and around the fwd bulkhead area under the bonnet. :) :o

Cool, i've got some out of date stuff in the garage. Pretty sure it's B1/2, will check. Good point about the A1/2. I think i'll see if i can aquire some :) lol

Is there any issues with primer/paint reacting with it? I know it fine on the jets, but don't they use 2k in the paint shop?

So far no reaction at all. Even the stone chip does not react so happy days. Don't forget on civvie a/c we use many different types of paint and in different areas so it needs to be as neutral as possible.

What it does like though is the surface to be grease free and slightly roughed for the best adhesion.

Thats good to hear, i forget about all the legislation these products have to go through before they're released on the populus.

Some of the SEMKIT packs come with Adhesion Enhanser pots in them. One of the best degreasers this side of MEK, without the added effect of melting whatever you're working with.

Also makes good fuel for spud cannons. :)

Being in the Aviation industry i do have access to life ex sealant. Had a look on Google and if you type in PRC sealant then information does come up.

To be honest there are suitable sealants for cars that are readily available try http://www.granvillesupplies.co.uk/ i get our u-pol gravitex stone chip from them. Very helpful guys to deal with.

Still stone chipping and its still reacting which is down to me and the topcoat i applied then primed over again  I did not key it so the stone chip is just lifting the primer.

Its getting sorted as i go along so anyway lesson learnt. I have prepped the r/h inner wing to fit the bonnet support stay bracket and the washer bottle mount.
Laid in place and then cleaned the paint off and applied Zinc rich primer

Welded in and cleaned up

Flashed some primer over the floor pan and rear inner arch

Happy with that but plenty more to do.
Now this bit needs to be fitted so it has to come apart
Posted Image
Anyway its apart and getting treated before i weld it in tomorrow. We have now got all of the bits to rebuild the gearbox, my mate has kindly donated a very good gear set, another friend has sold us his unused straight cut drops with Timiken bearing and we have the rebuild kit including a centre oil pickup pipe from Guessworks.

Now just need to find the time to rebuild it all.

Slowly but surely also managed to get a 7.5" disc conversion for the clubbie as well so i will need to install that before Scott passes his test.

Well its bloody cold in the garage now and that does hinder the stonechip from going off but anyway upwards and onwards. Had to strip the paint off on the inner wing and inside the outer wing then re prime it all to prevent anymore reaction from the stone chip. So far so good but its too cold for it all to go off so will have to wait.

Welded in the pipe sleeve for the heater, before
Posted Image
and after
Posted Image
Then the first coat of stone chip, hopefully if it goes off ill check for any more reaction, deal with it then add another coat.
