Project Erm

He's primed and painted inside the companion box, inner sill, inner arch and inside the rear quarter
Primed
Painted
Rear quarter
He then ripped into the l/h door skin getting it ready for repair and reskin but he found the door frame was beyond repair with even both side flanges rotten and he would spend a long time welding so not worth it.
Bodged bottom
thick filler
Skin off and bodges clear to be seen, old rust was not cut out and the repair section was pop riveted in place and some very poor welding
So if anybody has got a l/h door for sale in the Gatwick/Crawley area or Hastings/Bexhill/Eastbourne area my Dad can pick it up this weekend.

after repairs
Then it was the turn of the rear quarter panel
Picking up a l/h door next weekend and hopefully next week a nice shiney roll over jig so then the underside can get the attention it deserves. Scott was worried about rolling the car over onto a mattress and damaging the new panels so its spend some cash time. Bloody expensive at £235 notes but no centre pole so no cutting the rear bulkhead.

How much did the engine cost you?

Attention to the door gaps etc is great.
What do you use to grind down welds inside a right angle? Hope that makes sense.

Woah, no messing about!
How much did the engine cost you?
Came to £550.Saw a few refurbished ones on ebay for around the £800 mark but alot just looked like rush jobs with some shiny paint thrown on them .Then this one popped up and had alot of work already done to it.Plus with it being in pieces was easier to see the condition of it when we picked it up and its alot lighter in pieces which meant we could fit it in the boot .Think just about everything that could of been done to the engine was done and it has new pistons too.The carbs are near new as well and just seem to have been sitting around for a while as they are dirty.
Next step is to get swift tune SW5 cam for it and a duplex dual timing chain.

Love this thread, fabrication is brilliant Neil, are you using a mig?

Cheers for the comments, yes its all done with a Mig welder. For grinding down in right angles etc i use these
and get this sort of result, this area had 2 plug welds before grinding down with the burrs

Hopefully and depending on whether there's any overtime going at work i will carry on next thurs pm and try to finish the door by fri. By then the other bit i need for sorting the roll over jig should have arrived so will be able to see if there is room by the side of the car to spin it over.

Where did you buy your roll-over jig from, if you don't mind me asking? And how do you rate it? Is it one of these?

This thread is a font of knowledge!
I completely agree this has been a very good read and the right thing has been done from the starting point i.e everything being ripped out stripped off and destroyed the project is really coming along and it looks like such a good job i admire the skill and finesse undergone. good luck to future progress.
